Vale Tom Haygarth
One of the early pioneers of the modern industry in Perth, Tom Haygarth, died on Tuesday. Haygarth had a long history in local advertising and founded the Perth office of national agency MDA (Monahan Dayman Adams), which later merged with Mojo to become Mojo MDA, one of the industry’s most prominent agencies.
Vaughan Sutherland, MDA and Mojo Perth creative director remembered Haygarth as an inspirational agency leader and a brilliant financial manager.
An online Guest Book for Haygarth will be open from this Sunday, July 24.

Tom was in charge at the first agency I ever worked at, MDA. Between Tom and Vaughan, I mistakenly formed the idea that advertising was full of gentlemen. RIP.
A true gentleman.
And a bloody good numbers man.
Vale Tom
The news of Tom’s passing at 87 (a typical Captain’s knock) will sadden many in the Perth advertising community who knew and admired him through the industry heydays of the 70s and 80s. He touched so many lives at MDA, Mojo and Mojo/Chiat Day in such a positive and rewarding way. We were all the better for knowing Tom and benefiting from his wonderful insight, incredibly talented management of people and the business – along with his kind and wise guidance. I remember Don Morris saying that “to work at Mojo you had to be talented and a bloody good bloke to boot”. Well, Tom topped the bloody heap on both accounts! Here’s to you Tom Haygarth, bon voyage.
