Campaign Brief was saddened to hear of the passing last week of Iain O’Neill, the renowned screen printer and well-known industry figure from the 80s and 90s.

O’Neill (near left), pictured in his heyday with former art director turned fine artist Harvey Wachtel, operated screen printing companies Graphisigns and McPrint with long-time business partner Adrian Ball.

The companies won countless national print awards for innovation in silk-screening full colour, achieving unheard of screen resolutions for the time, which, these days is catered for with the introduction of ink jet technology.

“Iain was an outstanding screen printer, passionate about his work andalways providing the best service and highest quality work for hisclients,” said former Australian Posters WA sales manager, now CampaignBrief business development manager, Mike Morris. “He had many friendsin the industry – lunch with Iain was always a fun adventure! I’mconvinced his blood ran Tartan. He’ll be sadly missed.”

Says CB co-publisher Michael Lynch: “Iain was the most generous guy in the industry and would always buy lunch, no arguments. It didn’t pay to argue with an ex skinhead who grew up in the toughest neighhood on earth, Glasgow! When I was setting up CB in Sydney (the second time, in 1993), Iain paid the bond on the office/house as we didn’t have the money. It was his intention to set up his business in Sydney too but sadly for the industry over here he chose to stay in WA. He would have loved Mario’s.”

O’Neill’s funeral will be held at 10.30am on Monday in the Prosser Scott Chapel, 37 Adelaide Street, Fremantle.
