On Wednesday August 27th News Limited and AWARD will showcase an exhibition of the best work from the Perth 2008 AWARD School graduates, announce the top students and celebrate the School’s 25th Anniversary.
For over 25 years AWARD School has nurtured the creatives of tomorrow.
While embracing major developments in technology and media, AWARD School still continues to focus on the most important thing, the idea.
Ray Black, founder of AWARD School writes: “Congratulations to all those past AWARD School students who gained from it the knowledge and confidence to go on and become some of our most talented Art Directors, Writers and Creative Directors. Some graduates are now international creative stars. For 25 years AWARD School has given those who felt the calling the chance to get on that first rung of the creative ladder. Its results should give encouragement to those who are thinking of taking that first step. AWARD School would not have survived for 25 years without the dedication, commitment and belief in the idea by all those senior creatives who continue to freely give so much of their time and talent as tutors. Many of them are AWARD School graduates. Let’s also not forget the successive AWARD committees who quietly labored late into the night to help make it happen”.
Free door passes will be allocated to students, tutors, lecturers and judges but if you wish to attend one of the biggest industry events of the year, a very limited number of tickets can be purchased ($28 for PADC members, $45 for non-members).

$45 bucks!! Outrageous cost for one hour of free beer.
Every year AWARD bends over backwards, as do the tutors and judges, and give their all to AWARD School. No to mention the students who work their butts off. Every year they put on free booze and every year a handful of people turn up. If that’s what happens when it’s free entry, how many people will turn up now they’re charging 45 big ones? I would hate to think of these poor kids who have slaved over their books not to have anyone turn up to see it. I’m just sayin’…
The most disappointing thing is the non appearance of previous students who got their break via AWARD School. This should be a must attend event for any graduate of AWARD School that is now working in an agency.
Cannot believe this. 45 big ones to look at a few books that any student would happily drive to your agency with anyway. Yes, they worked hard and deserve a big night, so why the restrictions? I was considering going but I certainly won’t now – that’s just taking the piss.
Skinflint whiners should consider approaching their CD or CEO and asking that the cost be met by the agency. With a little creativity it can be offset against as a couple of the 24 hours’ Continuous Professional Development the agency needs for this years’ AFA accreditation. Managements are obsessed with this and will get out the chequebook quicker than you can say “you scratch our backs and we’ll scratch yours”
Next time I go to an agency, I’m going to charge them $45 to see my folio. Apparently they don’t mind paying. Woohoo!
Agreed. I aways make a point of going to AWARD School grad night, but certainly won’t be paying for the privilege this year. Making us pay for it isn’t going to make us ‘appreciate it’ or ‘own it’. I feel so sorry for the students, all that hard work and no one will be there to see it.
From what ive heard the event is now free and the ticket prices have been removed.
