Twenty writers in the running for this year’s $20,000 SCA The White Horse award for radio
For the first time in its long and storied history, Southern Cross Austereo’s $20,000 radio writers prize will be presented as part of The Skulls awards.
Since 1994, SCA has recognised the most creative radio commercial to have aired on SCA stations in Perth. Commenced as the 94.5 Radio Writers Award, it was later extended to include sister station hit92.9 as they became part of the SCA network.
Now called The White Horse award, this year’s winner will be announced at The PADC Skulls next Friday night, November 10.
The winning writer will receive the cash prize of $20,000 as well as the inaugural The White Horse trophy, plus the winning client company will receive $20,000 worth of added-value airtime.
This year’s award has been decided by three prestigious international judges, who are renowned for their own award-winning creative work and have been jurors at major awards shows including Cannes, New York Festivals, LIA, One Show and D&AD.

Mariana O’Kelly (right) is Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather, South Africa, and has led the team behind the Radio Grand Prix winners at Cannes Lions for the last two years.
“It was important for us to be completely impartial to the judging process and find world-class judges who shared our passion for great creative,” said SCA Head of Sales Noel Quick. “Matt Dickson (The Studio at SCA’s national Head of Creativity) called in some favours from his jury peers in Cannes and the calibre this year is outstanding. A huge thanks to them.”
