Traffik takes ballet to the streets
Marketforce’s experiential arm, Traffik (WA) was approached by the West Australian Ballet to generate ticket sales for their latest production of Romeo and Juliet. The West Australian Ballet felt there were new ticket-buying public who would be attracted to the C20th contemporary performance who may not be reached via traditional marketing channels.
Traffik (WA) Account Director, Clare Read-Smith, who joined Marketforcein May from London based experiential marketing firm Jack MortonWorldwide, engaged the project team immediately devising new mediatactics to bring dance to the public.
“Perth is still relativelynew to the flashmob concept as a marketing tool. We felt that, ifcoupled with a social networking campaign, the event provided a greattool for accessing the market,” said Read-Smith. “We’ve achievedexcellent broadcast coverage through Channel 9 Perth and The West TV,which we’ve coupled with a social networking teaser and post-eventcampaign. The digital campaign is already creating buzz on Facebook,YouTube and Twitter. It’s my passion to bring engaging experiences tonew audiences and we are now reaching a new ticket-buying public forthe West Australian Ballet”.

No fighting?
No seedy internet loitering?
Finding a passion that doesn’t involve hurting others?
WTF’S WRONG WITH THOSE KIDS????
Can’t wait for flashmob concept to be used by the beach volleyball team.
It’s a difficult one isn’t it? We’ve all seen those fantastic flash mob things from overseas on You Tube. But we know if we do one, we’re gonna be bagged as me-too and pick up nothing at any award shows. And yet the whole thing has by-passed Perth so we know Joe and Joanna Public will love it. Do we go ahead, get the props from the public and damn the critics? Or do we park the idea and think up something new and different which might make us personally famous? We’ve all been there at one point or another so congratulations to Traffik for making the choice they have. You have done a great job for ballet in the city and the campaign is a lot of fun. Can’t wait to bump into some dancers soon. Any credits for the team?
Saatchis London recently did a super rad version of that.

Jesus it’s all happening in ‘Toytown’.
Hardly Trafalgar Square but its a start I spose.
As nice as it is to see an enthused public the actual idea seems a little jaded now.
MF putting staff on?
…..Such “a buzz” that a whole 613 people have viewed the video to see how much it’s like the t-mobile Liverpool Street station award winner. Anyway, hats off for at least doing something.
I’m sure Garden City is the perfect place to plug the ballet.
They probably got good media coverage because there was no football news that day ha ha.
I agree with 7.24. Hats off for at least doing something.
yes, it isn’t a new idea but it’s new in the market – if something’s gonna work then why not do it.
its pretty much a pure definition of experiential though, giving the consumer a chance to experience the product first hand – decent effort on what is a client with next to no advertising budget –
