Well-known brand consultant Emma Watton (pictured) has joined Block to spearhead their strategic and client delivery offerings.

The hire is a major coup for Block and rounds off a strong year for the business that saw them being the most-awarded agency at The PADC Skulls and named Campaign Brief Challenger Agency of the Year for the second year running.

Most recently Watton had been splitting her time between Sydney and Perth working on communications strategies for major business transformation projects with The Difference (PwC). Originally from Sydney, Watton spent five years in London at Black Cat, which became part of JWT’s RMG Connect. Her experience included working across Europe and America on the Avis/British Airways partnership and she rose to Group Account Director working on brands such as Motorola and Lexmark.

On returning to Australia she worked on FMGC with Coca-Cola and Unilever after which she made the move to Perth, setting up as a Brand Consultant. In Perth she has worked both agency and client-side on a plethora of projects over the past 11 years.

“We are incredibly flattered that Emma has chosen to join Block as we know she has been pursued by many agencies since her move to Perth,” said Block Managing Director Tanya Sim, “And the fact that she decided that Block is where she wants to spend the next phase of her career is really exciting.”

At Block, Watton will be charged with continuing to build on Block’s acclaimed strategic offering and delivering a world-class experience for Block’s local and global clients by shaping Block’s account management offering for a continually evolving communications landscape.

“I’ve had a bit of a crush on Block for years, and have been hot desking out of their (incredible) office space as I flitted between Perth and Sydney,” said Watton, “I was always drawn to their commitment to strategy, to understanding the problem before solving it, and to see the business, not just the marketing problem that needed to be dealt with. I couldn’t think of another company I would give up my frequent flyer points collection for.”

Watton has hit the ground running with significant strategy projects for both The City of Swan and The City of Mandurah, and continuing work with one of Perth’s iconic city buildings, Central Park as well as supporting strategy development with the Australian National University.
