Tinning exits Marketforce; Patrick Lennox and Ben Green to return as joint Creative Directors
Marketforce and creative director Andrew Tinning (left) have parted company, with Tinning having already left the agency.
Former Marketforce creatives Pat Lenox and Ben Green – currently at DDB Melbourne – will return to the agency as joint CDs, commencing in January next year.
Marketforce chairman John Driscoll said Tinning’s departure marked an amicable and mutually agreed parting of the ways and came as part of a major restructuring and repositioning of the agency.
“We are of course sad to see Andrew go and thank him for both thecreative leadership he’s shown and the success he’s helped us achievein his time with Marketforce.”
During his six years with the agency, Tinning has led Marketforce to aperiod of creative dominance locally. He said he left the agency ongood terms, with pride in its achievements and his part in them.
“After this many years in the game, one thing I understand is the reality of business and the challenges that Marketforce, along with many other agencies, are facing in the current climate. Marketforce is a great brand with an impressive history and a bright future and I wish them nothing but good luck as they reshape, redefine and rebuild over the coming year. During my time at the agency, I’ve worked with some top people and made some wonderful friends who I will never forget. And needless to say I’m proud of my contribution to what has been widely acknowledged as the most successful creative period in the company’s 35 year history.”
“Over the coming weeks, I’ll be taking some much needed time out to play with my new chickens, tend to my much neglected garden and carefully plan my next move- wherever, whatever and whenever it may be.”
The move comes after the most tumultuous year in Marketforce’sthirty-six year history, culminating with the loss of cornerstoneclient Lotterywest in September.
Driscoll said that while Tinning would be missed, the agency’s creativeand management teams were engaged and excited about launching into thecompany’s next chapter and building on the success of the past 35 years.
“What we have been working towards in recent months is a refreshed, reinvigorated, agile, passionate and driven agency. The appointments ofRick Multari as Director of Client Services and Nicole Walton asDirector of Strategic Planning have been key planks in that strategyand have already made an enormous difference to our business. With theaddition of Ben and Patrick to head up our creative in the New Year, webelieve we have put together a team that represents the best theindustry has to offer.”
Green and Lennox, who both started their careers with Marketforce, return to the agency after a highly successful six years working theeastern states, most recently with DDB in Melbourne. They have workedon campaigns for Domino’s Pizza, Origin Energy, Target, Heinz, K-martand the rebranding of Coles Supermarkets.
They were amongst Perth most highly regarded creatives when they leftin 2004, with Green ranked no. 5 in the CB Creative Rankings that year.

What a sad day for Marketforce. Good luck to the lads that are left, you’re going to need it.
Tinno built and led an amazing creative team at Marketforce and the results are there for all to see. He and his team consistently brought ideas to the table that blew everyone away, and he pushed everyone to try harder and do more. His passion boiled over on occasion, but that just added to the fun of working with a bloke who believes deeply in his craft. Best of luck mate. Look out chickens…
Good luck Andrew, hope to still see you around Perth and continuing your great support of the industry and the people in it. The only thing constant in this business is change. Good luck to MF too.
9,26 Highly unlikely AT will be sticking around Perth now…His skills will be in great demand elsewhere! The guy is a legend!
Extremely sad day for the crew at Marketforce. Tinno built a great team and pushed the creative boundaries during his time at MF.
On the upside…nice to see Pat and Benny on their way home!
Best of luck Tinno. Can’t wait to see where the journey takes you next.
Love The Easter Bunny xoxo
Shit! Good luck Andrew. I thought it was a real turning point for Perth when you came across and the creative standards you set will continue to inspire. Thanks for everything you’ve done, from the work to your efforts with the PADC. Hopefully catch you for a beer to discuss the All Blacks as they commence their unraveling in the lead up to next years RWC. Great to have Ben and Pat back in town too, to continue the good work.
I only really got to know Andrew recently. A great guy with a great passion for our industry. And his contribution to our club benefited everyone. If he leaves Perth, which I’m sure he will, his drive and energy will be sorely missed.
Andrew Tinning oversaw the greatest loss of business in Marketforce’s history…
Welcome back to Perth Patrick and Ben…two of the nicest guys in the industry!
It’s great to see award-winning WA talent return home. Well done Marketforce and well done Pat and Ben.
Wow. Big news.
Sad to see Tinning leave. He has contributed heaps to MF and Perth’s creative reputation. Hopefully he can remain in Perth as we need talent to remain here.
Good luck for your future Andrew.
Congratulations Patty and Ben!!
Why work for a meerkat when you can work for the Mighty Tinning?
11.27 Pathetic comment from a pathetic little person. If you knew anything about the why’s and how’s of Marketforce losing business, it’s common knowledge the creative had nothing to do with those outcomes.Tinning is a far greater talent than you could ever hope to be.
You can’t blame Tinning or the creative team for MF’s woes. The creative was there, nearly every time. The service and strategy, account service and client management wasn’t.
How many “amicable and mutually agreed parting of the ways” happen instantly, quietly and without a handover?
Good luck Tinno!

wow! how the mighty falls… i agree, mf needs restructuring – but probably more on other departments rather than creative or even production! i totally agree with 2.16pm, but sadly every time when a client walks out of their door, they just think of cutting some vital people, who might be the most important ingredient for the next tender. it is very interesting that they never see account service is their biggest weakness! good luck to andrew and i am sure he will be snapped up by better agency immediately.
11:27 – perhaps that’s true, but can’t the same can be said for Driscoll & Robinson?
You’ve been a great leader & mentor, and also a good friend. Wishing you all the best Tinno!

A two for the price of one deal. Pretty fitting for what is fast becoming the biggest retail shop in town
Well done Pat and Beans. Finally you guys get handed the comfy chair and big desk! You guys will smash it!
And Showman, I know you’re reading this – even though you swear you NEVER read it. Sukker!
Word is he’s thinking seriously about staying and starting his own thing. Now that would be interesting!
How exciting if that is the truth 6:41. That would mean the boring, conservative, retail advertising would stay with MF and those clients who appreciate effective creative work would jump ship to join Skipper Tinning. Another big lot of losses to MF as there would be many that would change

MF’s digital team are as fast as ever…
@9.35 In the company of the witless, the half-wit reigns supreme.
Great bloke, great creative and I hope he stays in Perth and opens up his own shop. I for one will be knocking on his door for a job.
8.32 I agree, but trust me there are a few high ranking ‘teflon’ personalities at MF.
Jesus, in any other company the board and/or management team would have been well and truly broken up by now.
Amicable and mutually agreed parting of the ways…what a crock.
Can’t wait to hear the real story over a beer one day.
MF have burnt so many people over the years its not funny.
Tinning to 303 …I don’t think so. Not a good cultural fit.
Dear Herod, this is the wrong head.

303 have got to do something. They are headed in the same direction as MF. Local clients want to start seeing the same ambition they show on recruitment over east repeated here in Perth or they’ll just go elsewhere.
I thought I’d leave it a few days before I posted anything and I’m glad I did. It’s given me the chance to enjoy all of the wonderful messages of support that I’ve received from friends and colleagues across town, across the country and across the ditch.
It really has been overwhelming and it’s amazing how many doors open in front of you when the ones you never thought would, close behind you. First up welcome back Ben and Patrick. if you’re reading this boys you have a big challenge ahead of you, but big challenges are what big reputations are built on. You have a great department and with their help and support, you will get the job done. Remember if you need any help or advice, I’m only a phone call and $150 an hour away! (haha)
To my many friends at Marketforce, thank you for the good times and the great work we’ve done together. As yet I haven’t managed to teach the chooks how to drink so needless to say, I’m missing my wobbly stool down in research. There are too many people to mention individually but I would like to single out a few of the players in my old team. Murray and Steve, you are two of the nicest blokes I’ve ever met and your talent and maturity are just what the agency needs right now. Guy, you have an amazing mind and a big future ahead of you. Never lose that drive mate, it’s going to take you wherever you want to go. Mads it’s like I’ve had my right arm cut off! I’ve ordered my copy of Mac for Morons and it should be arriving any day. Without your skill and assistance my book would be looking more scrap than best seller! I really will miss you. Cat, thank you for everything my love, you’ll always be one of the coolest chicks I’ve ever met and I expect a spin in the wagon one day soon. Nigel and Steve the work you guys are doing in digital is brilliant. Watching the crusty challenge come together and being a part of the madness when it went live was the most excited I’ve been about work for a long time. And last but not least Boycee. When I do get those chickens drinking I’ll re name one of them in your honor. Thanks for all of the good times mate, I hope all is well.
As for me, well as anyone who was fortunate enough to witness Chrissy Hind and Debbie Harry blow the Kings Park sound shell apart last night will tell you, you’re never to old and you never lose the gift. It’s not the end my friends it’s just the beginning.
Cheers.
Andrew
And that is why I love Andrew Tinning x
Good onya Tinno. Good luck with your next step.
I second that Jen Baker!!
