Glass Lion Grand Prix (1).jpgResults from a further five Cannes Lions entry sections were tonight revealed at the second of the week’s awards ceremonies, bringing to an end another day of diverse and inspiring content focused on the future.

8 much-anticipated Glass Lions were presented, including a Grand Prix to BBDO India, Mumbai, for Procter & Gamble Whisper, “Touch the Pickle”.

Jury president Cindy Gallop, founder and CEO, IfWeRanTheWorld / MakeLoveNotPorn, said judges came to the decision following lengthy discussion, informed by a strong sense of responsibility for what the category represents.

Says Gallop: “Ultimately we unanimously agreed on work tackling a gender issue that impacts every single woman worldwide; does it in a way that is innovative and disruptive while entertaining and engaging; comes naturally from a brand for whom effecting change in this area is not only its innate social responsibility but of tremendous business benefit; and which has achieved amazing results in one of the most conservative markets in the world.”

131 Outdoor Lions were awarded. TBWA/Media Arts Lab Los Angeles and Apple Cuppertino claimed the Grand Prix for the “World Gallery” iPhone 6 integrated campaign, described by jury president Juan Carlos Ortiz, president & CEO of DDB, as a ground-breaking blend of innovation and simplicity-of-thought that made the jury’s choice easy.

Says Ortiz: “We didn’t choose the Grand Prix – the Grand Prix chose us.”

KFC So Good.jpgThroatsil_RAMSAY.jpgGPY&R Melbourne was the only Australian agency to win metal. The agency has secured two Bronze Lions for its ‘Donation Posters’ work for Public Transport Victoria. From Asia there were 3 Gold Lions. BBDO Bangkok won for a Throatsil campaign titled “Alex”, “Ramsay” and “Tyler”. BBDO Malaysia won Gold for their KFC Brand posters “Drumstick”, “Burger” and “French Fries”. Y&R Shanghai won for Xiao Zhu Air Purifier “Breathe Again”.

In addition to the 3 Gold Lions, Asian agencies also won 9 Silver Lions and 11 Bronze Lions.

The Creative Effectiveness Lions saw the continuation of a winning streak for Volvo, with Forsman & Bodenfors receiving the Grand Prix for Volvo Trucks “Live Test Series” which jury president Wendy Clark, president sparkling brands & strategic marketing, Coca-Cola North America, emphatically called “a gift to the industry” that demonstrated the power of creative bravery as a conduit to exceptional effectiveness.

Says Clark: “This was unapologetic advertising, proud to communicate its message. Every jury member was jealous of the work.” A further 16 Lions were also awarded. Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney won a Bronze Lion for Luxottica’s ‘Penny The Pirate’ campaign.

PR Lions jury president, Lynne Anne Davis, president & senior partner Asia Pacific, FleishmanHillard, movingly described discussion amongst the jury that had led to the awarding of their Grand Prix to MSL Group NY and Leo Burnett Toronto for Procter & Gamble, Always “#Like A Girl”.

Says Davis: “There were two jury members who had showed it to their children, and they will never know ‘like a girl’ to be a put-down. This is a campaign that marries a brand promise with brand purpose and commercial pursuit. It’s not just counting the people reached, but reaching the people who count.”

She also highlighted that over half of this year’s 79 PR Lion-winners had come from PR specialists, attributing the increase to the creativity gap having “completely closed” between advertising and PR agencies.

Australia scored one Gold Lion and two Silver Lions in the PR Lions competition. M&C Saatchi Sydney / Fuel Communications has scored one Gold Lion and one Silver Lion for Optus ‘Clever Buoy‘ and Whybin\TBWA Group Sydney / N2N Communications has scored its Silver Lion for Airbnb ‘Stay With Pride‘.

Three Golds were awarded to Asia. Ogilvy Beijing collected two of the Gold Lions for their “Great Chinese Names for Great Britain” campaign, which was also awarded a Silver Lion. The campaign saw UK national tourism agency, VisitBritain, along with the Home Office, ask the people of China to give new Chinese names to hundreds of tourist attractions and places of interest scattered across Britain. TBWA/Hakuhodo Japan also collected a Gold Lion for Quicksilver’s “True wetsuits”. This campaign also won a Silver Lion. True wetsuits enables Japan’s over-worked businessmen to regain their work/surf balance.

Finally, in Media, 80 Lions were awarded including the Grand Prix to Y&R Team Red, Istanbul for Vodafone, “Vodafone Red Light Application / Between Us”. Speaking about the work, Nick Emery, global CEO, Mindshare, said that it was clever, a good cause and a great media idea.

Says Emery: “It embraces the best of both a corporate campaign and the originality of an NGO approach. Technology was at its heart and it also has an adaptable and flexible media approach, personalised to the women of Turkey.”

Australia won one Silver Lion and four Bronze Lions. UM Sydney and Ogilvy Sydney have scored Australia’s only Silver in the category for Coca-Cola South Pacific. From Asia TBWA/Being Shanghai won two Lions for their “Search for free Wifi, search for missing children” for their campaign for Baobeihuijia. Other agencies from Asia to score Lions are Cheil Worldwide South Korea, who picked up two Silver Lions for “Morning Like a King” for Burger King.
