APPLAUDING BUS SHELTER
July 15 2008, 2:10 pm | | 28 Comments
The Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation wanted to show their appreciation to people who were doing their bit for the planet by taking public transport to and from work. Marketforce Perth set up a number of these applauding bus shelters in high traffic areas around the CBD. Motion sensors in the shelter triggered a recorded applause whenever someone entered.
The poster was created by Ryan Albuino, Andrew Chu, Andrew Tinning and Danielle Glenister.
See the vision of the applauding poster.

It would have been better if it shouted out random abuse at the 97% of people who don’t use public transport as they drove past in their cars
It’s a winner just as it is. To yell out at people in cars is also a nice idea but the problem is they would not hear it in their nice warm vehicles. So this approach pats people on the back for doing the right thing.
Does it also sense when you leave because you’re pissed off at waiting more than 15 minutes for a bus in fucking peak hour and offer a ‘thanks anyway, we know it’s tough’ message?
I disagree. the poster works really well as it is.
Well done to the person who sold the idea to the client.
Yeah 8.41. Transperth sucks, but the poster is good. Would have loved to have seen the poster in action.
and Marketforce are doing their bit for creativity. Bastards!. Great poster guys.
Well no need to enter the outdoor category at the PADC. With this poster and the Road Safety X-Ray stuff it’s all sewn up. Right you are 2.50. Bastards!
Credit where credit is due.
The simple side-by-side graphic posters for the same client are attracting a lot of attention, too. Taggers are travelling from miles around to express themselves on the acres of white. The site in Karrakatta is totally covered. Nice work.
5.18, I think you can stop worrying about how many awards ‘X-ray’ is going to win, last time I checked PADC only accepts work that has been approved by the client. Ouch.
Are you saying they are scam ads????
This is NOT a scam, i have seen it with my own eyes. And if you want you can go see it for yourself, it’s still there if i am not mistaken.
And whether or not you want to start criticizing the transportation service is up to you. Regardless, this is a unique and clever ad campaign that definitely gets the message across.
Great work for those involved!
P.S. waiting 15 minutes in peak hour for a bus is time well spent if it means your doing your bit to save our environment. But hey, that’s just my opinion…
I don’t think 10.07 was suggesting that this was a scam. Read the comment above it.
where has it appeared? it got pulled from every blog it was featured on.
Arjan, they are referring to the Road Safety xray ads that were also created by Marketforce. They were produced and approved by the ORS people but then they got stupidly held up by those wonderful folk at the state government media office. I believe the posters are now up.
Pulled from every blog? I found it easy searching on http://www.bestadsontv.com

The ORS X-RAY work was held up for a while due to GMO approval taking a while. This has since happened and the material is up and running in the marketplace. There is nothing scam about this campaign. It’s a legitimate piece of work for a legitimate client who appreciates great creative when they get it. Stop bitching about other peoples work and focus on improving your own. You’ll be a lot happier and our industry will look a lot better as a result
2.53 is correct. The campaign was 100% approved by ORS and the reason why blogs like ours were asked in May to remove the ads was that GMO approval was delayed. The fact that this approval took around 2 months does not reflect well on the GMO and hopefully the momentum of the important ORS ‘Restraints’ message in country areas was not disrupted.
8.49am: You can bet your last dollar that you will see this campaign up on stage, not only at the PADC but also at the important regional and international shows.
The campaign can be seen on the following links:

Use an intern, use someone from studio, use pretty much anyone in your award entry, but don’t use yourself in Andrew. Bloody hell, why don’t you get Tinning to sit next to you giving a thumbs up to camera.
At this rate the only category worth entering for the other agencies will be effectiveness.
Thankfully its the only one clients really care about too.
7.11 the best creative work not only wins awards but the hearts and minds of the consumer. Great award winning work is also great effective work-if you are referring to their seatbelt campaign then you’ll find that it will do the business both on the stage and out in the marketplace
For the record 2.53, no one said the X-ray campaign was a scam and no one was ‘bitching’ about it. The comment was that it hadn’t yet been approved, but it looks like it now has. Which is good. Right?
Good, get back to your scam ads then.
An applauding bus shelter? Simply mindblowing

I look forward to seeing your seatbelt campaign paper at either the APG or AFA effectiveness awards in due course. I understand “Pinky” has already set the bar. Shouldn’t be too difficult for you to match or beat it.
Take Tinning away and I bet all MF’s creatives flounder. They’re all his ideas. He just lets them get their names on the work so he looks good as a CD.
11.05, are you being sarcastic?
One could argue the exact opposite if one was to believe some of the rumours around town.
But we don’t really wanna go there do we?
You know what, I don’t usually lower myself to responding to this kind of muck raking but who ever wrote those last two coments they are really pathetic and a real reflection of the kind of backstabbing pettiness I’ve encountered during my time in here Perth. The people in my department are all incredibly talented individuals who all get a fair crack at the good the bad and the downright ugly and that includes myself. Furthermore, we all work our arses off at trying to produce work that is better than the ‘but it’s Perth’ bullshit excuse that gets used here so often. My name has never appeared on anything that I haven’t made a valid creative contribution to and that’s above and beyond my role as CD. It’s the same for everyone here at Marketforce-credit where credit is due. We are a team and It’s my job to lead it and do everything I can and help out in anyway to ensure that we make the most of our opportunities. I’d much rather be doing that than sitting on my arse counting my stock options and remembering the good old days when I picked up that silver at the PADC’s.
Andrew, the way I read it those two are only stirring for the sake of this site and don’t really mean any harm. Reading 11.05 again and it is actually a compliment to you. Keep up the good work.
