The West Australian’s Geoffrey Thomas receives a Lifetime Achievement Award

Geoffrey Thomas, Aviation Editor for The West Australian, was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Aerospace Journalism and Publishing at the Aerospace Media Awards presented at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London.

The judges cited Thomas’ almost five decades of coverage of the aviation industry, 42 awards and 11 books in the accolade.

“Geoffrey has appeared in four aviation investigative documentaries and is a consultant to and participant in Air Crash Investigation and he has appeared extensively on CNN and the BBC. Recently Geoffrey was a significant commentator in The Age of Aerospace documentary series celebrating Boeing’s 100th year.”

Less well known is that Thomas was also once The West’s Media & Marketing correspondent for about 5 minutes. In fact, CB shared a table with him at the 2003 Oasis Ball & Campaign Brief Awards, with Thomas looking slightly bemused by the whole affair.

He managed to handball that particular beat shortly thereafter and is much more comfortable enjoying the complimentary Krug at the front of an A380, which he has turned into a long and now award-winning career. Clever bastard!
