The PADC announce a rebrand as Cooch’s Spencer Battista is elected as club president
The Perth Advertising and Design Club last night held their AGM and elected Spencer Battista as the club’s new president.
Battista’s first task was to show off the club’s new rebrand and announce the new strategic direction for 2012.
He outlines this below:
Now what?
Last week the new CEO of Proctor & Gamble stated that they would no longer be spending $10 billion a year on brand advertising, acknowledging that the loss of $1billion in commission would be significant to their agencies. He also said that he doubted very much whether it would change the way agencies operate because it was too easy to earn the big dollars. He predicts that the agencies of the future will be small, agile and highly specialised and that those who recognised this were already moving in that direction, while the others will simply fall away. We’ll see.
There’s no doubt that our industry is undergoing permanent structural change but the strength of any effective communication is still the idea that drives it, whatever medium it is, that’s what makes the connection, that’s what gets remembered.
While there is a demand for creative thinking there will be demand for the people who supply it. There has been much healthy debate about the role of the PADC, for me it is simply this – to support and nurture the talent that our industry is dependent on and I’m very happy to be leading an organisation dedicated to doing that. It can only happen with the support of those who are in the industry, including our clients, who see the value in developing our own talent, if you don’t then save yourself the fees.
The PADC’s role goes far beyond staging an award show and we have a dedicated, enthusiastic committee who will ensure that role is fulfilled. After thirty years, I would like to see the PADC regain its momentum and drive serious change within the creative ranks of its membership for the benefit of all of us. Moving forward you’ll see a reinvigorated brand and a very positive attitude from your Club.
Spencer Battista
President

Optimism and passion are the foundation of success in this gig, Spinny, and you sound like you’ve got a good supply. Go get ’em, mate.
I’m with ya mate.
Poor typography in the new design guys.
The P is too far away from the A and the invisible curve is all over the place.
Don’t get me started on the other stuff!
Who did this?
For a club mark its a pretty poor representation of the craft.
Well said –
Glad to have you at the healm.
Love the new logo.
Good to see the old one go!
I agree with that CEO, Brand’s advertising is a thing of the past
i think PADC’s new direction will certainly make them the most successful vintage t-shirt company to come out of Perth in quite some time. Ed Hardy be damned!
Well done for stepping up Spinny.
Have to agree Ahhh. It’s all very so, so. The distressed treatment. The cowboy like font. The horizontal lines. Someone’s trying to be a little too ‘edgy’ I think. It’s like a new patch for some half-arsed bikie club, not the PADC.
ahhhhhh Ahhh….
Another hater.
Are you a member? On the committee?
Didn’t think so.
But thanks for your input mate.
I like it!!! I do think the skull looks a bit like a bowl and should be filled with Battista muma’s spaghetti bolognase
Feb 17. 2.55 – Alas the truth is hard to take.
The whole point of a blog is to have comment. Some good some bad.
I am hoping to become more involved with Perth’s Advertising/Branding scene. Mostly to get connected and stay up to date with other agencies.
Does anyone recommend local organisations or events to take part in? Is PADC worth joining?
