Southern Cross Austereo’s Taylor Swishes win inaugural Youngbloods Sweat + Tears tournament

The inaugural Youngbloods Sweat and Tears Championship took place last Friday. The event began with teams showing off their skills with warm up drills. Mathiang Muo from the Wildcats gave a few secret tips and words of encouragement to each team, but it was clear which teams had trained in preparation for the tournament.

Games kicked off at 3pm with the first teams taking to the court. Taylor Swishes (Southern Cross Austereo) vs. WildKats (Meerkats), LeBrand James (The Brand Agency) vs. TEH INTHENETS? (Longtail) and JWThrees’ (JWT) vs. 303 Loweballers (303lowe). With the other teams, Ball So Hard (Marketforce), Get it INI Ya (Initiative), Space Slam (Curtin University) and Moose Knucklers (Gatecrasher) waiting patiently on the benches.

By 5pm the finals were aggressively taking place – Space Slam (Curtin University) took home the honourable ‘Horses Ass’ trophy as the losing team.

The Taylor Swishes (pictured above) took home the winning title after an intense grand final match against Get it INI Ya.

Southern Cross Austereo kept the tunes going throughout the day keeping up the excitement, while Phil and Chris from APN enjoyed MC’ing the event and egging the teams on.

Awards took place at Varsity Bar in Nedlands where teams were awarded with prizes sponsored by APN, Youngbloods and Matso’s Brewery.

Best Cheer Squad: JWThrees (JWT) – Leaving with a carton of Matso’s and bottle of wine from APN

Losing team: Space Slam (Curtin University) – Leaving with the Horse’s Ass trophy, carton of Matso’s from Matso’s and a bottle of wine from APN

Runner Up: Get it INI ya (Initiative) Leaving with the runner up Basketball trophy, carton of Matso’s from Matso’s and bottle of wine from APN

Winning team: Taylor Swishes (Southern Cross Austereo) – Leaving with the perpetual trophy, carton of Matso’s from Matso’s, bottle or wine and a $250 Varsity Bar voucher from APN.

A huge thank you to APN, Southern Cross Austereo, Matsos’, the Youngbloods committee, Pilpel Printing and Alice Chapman for their involvement in making this event a success. They say a bit of friendly competition never hurt anyone (except Wilora who ran into the brick wall flinging the ball onto court).
