Why did this ad have to produced in New Zealand? I’m a Curtin University trained animator trying to make a living in WA and it makes me really angry when simple jobs like this get shipped overseas to the mates of agency creatives. It is simple stop-motion animation. Nothing too complicated. You guys are a disgrace. And why does Curtin Uni allow this? Are the students you trained not good enough to do your ads?
Nice spot, well done James and Dave.
Top spot and TBCU, I’m sure that if you had shown your work to the Agency and they had liked it you would have been in the frame for the job ( or should that be in the stop frame for the job?) and if you haven’t , then why don’t you.
@Trained by: Perhaps post your URL here for creatives to see, thereby turning a negative into a positive? All agencies are genuinely receptive to using local talent – so right here, right now would be smart way to promote your work.
Tidy spot guys.
Rice!
Simplicity works…well done Brand!
@Trained by: Rather than moan and stumble around wearing your WA blinkers, do something constructive. As suggested, get your reel in front of the local agencies or broaden your experience by doing a gig in the Eastern States or overseas; if you feel Perth doesn’t give you the opportunities you deserve.
Thanks for your wise words Velvet. I have shown my reel to many agencies. I have worked overseas and i am experienced. The Curtin ad was a no brainer for me. I choose to live in Perth. That doesn’t mean I should miss out because some creative wants to jump on a plane and visit his mate in NZ. There is nothing in that ad that required an overseas production team. If you think there is, let me know what special ingredient is. Basic stop motion. Term 4 – Curtin Media Course.
@ Velvet..why does having to do a gig in the East or overseas prove that the production capabilities of people living in Perth are better? Is it because the creative ideas are better over there also?
Spot on 8.01. It’s a joke. If I was the Curtin client i would asking the big question. “Why did you choose an overseas production company when a company in WA could of done as good if not better?” Send your kids to the eastern states to be educated. Obviously the standard of graduates here is not up to scratch.
The animation was done by Norman Yeend who is Australian although I’m not sure that he went to Curtin University, and on the budget that we had. Nobody got on a plane.
Thanks Ian. Is it that Perth production and animation companies are too expensive? Were they asked to quote? I know there are many great animators living in Perth and Bunbury. I find it hard to believe none of them are competitive.
People like to use contacts they know and trust. regardless if they’re in a different city. just so happens there’s a lot of east siders in town. so westies are fighting harder for less jobs. no different to other sectors.
put your gloves on, pull your pants down and hope your work is good enough
Regardless of the above , it’s a cool spot.
It’s a cool spot that could of been done in Perth. I think Curtin has made a big mistake here. Eyes were off the ball.
