The 30 best ads from Campaign Brief’s 30 years. 1991: Adventure World ‘Turbo Mountain’
Campaign Brief WA turns 30 this month, so over the thirty days of June we’re looking back and choosing the best ad done in each of our 30 years.
In February 1991, Mike Edmonds and Dale Simmonds shocked the industry by exiting JMAO&M to join the nine-month old 303.
Their first work for their new agency was a TVC for Adventure World’s new rollercoaster, Turbo Mountain.

Unfortunately, the rollercoaster wouldn’t be completed until just before the campaign started, so they couldn’t shoot any footage on it. The solution was an animated spot, in which the majority of the dialogue was a scream.
Such a fun, clever little TVC, it won Best of Show at the PADCs and was a [correction] finalist for Commercial of the Year at the Golden Keys (local awards for TV), as well as a finalist at AWARD, Clio and One Show.
Coincidentally, SHED recently faced a similar problem with the launch of Adventure World’s ABYSS rollercoaster, which wasn’t ready by the time the campaign had to commence.

Hi Guys
I believe, Matt Eastwood’s Ansett “Torture” TVC won Best of Show at theGolden Key awards that year, when Jack Vaughan, Ronnie Mather and Simon Collins were judges.
Right you are, Terry. ‘Turbo Mountain’ was a Finalist.
I’m sure modesty forbids but of course, you also won Best Director for ‘Torture’ AND were a finalist for RAC Insurance ‘Home Security’. An excellent performance. Nice to hear from you.
