The 30 best ads from Campaign Brief’s 30 years. 2002: Burswood Casino ‘No Smoking’ poster

Burswood_V2_2002_BLOG.jpgCampaign Brief WA turns 30 this month, so over the thirty days of June we’re looking back and choosing the best ad done in each of our 30 years.

2002 was another average year, rescued by this beaut poster from The Brand Agency for Burswood Casino. It was created by Peter Nelson and Craig Buchanan, and is a classic example of a creative opportunity existing in the simplest of briefs.

It won a Silver at the PADCs and was a finalist at AWARD. We didn’t have a Campaign Brief Award for Out of Home back then but it would likely have won that if we had.

A very honourable mention to 303’s ‘Vegie Man’ TVC for the Health Dept.’s Nutrition campaign.

VegieMan_2002_BLOG.jpgLike HBF ‘Ted’ from 1994, which was also created by Lindsay Medalia and Ray Van Kempen, this wasn’t a big creative award-winner but was a real hit with the general public. The first version was voiced by local chef Aristos, who was something of a celebrity at the time through his Surprise Chef TV program. It was the first of a long-running campaign that included versions with Dame Edna and Rolf Harris (eek!).

Like we said, not a big creative award winner but it did pick up some impressive Effectiveness accolades, which saw the campaign used by various state governments around Australia.
