Top tips for Best Dressed at the Oasis Ball from this year’s Grand Judge, STM’s Claire Davies
This year’s Best Dressed at the Oasis Ball is being judged by Perth fashion and style doyen, STM’s Claire Davies.
So what will the sharp-eyed Ms Davies be looking for? Well, here’s her Top 7 tips for Best Dressed success.
1. Get inspired. With a Black Tie dress code and a futuristic Cyberpunk theme, there are plenty of awesome characters to reference. Corrupt government overlord, misfit computer hacker or a kick-butt femme fatale. See films like Blade Runner, Total Recall and eXistenZ for inspiration.
2. Dress Code. Black tie means formal, not fancy dress (Bugger! Ed.). Floor length gowns for the ladies and dinner suits for the guys.
3. Colour. Black is the classic choice, but with this year’s sci-fi theme, experiment with metallic and neon hues, plus futuristic fabrics like PVC and latex.
4. Hire. Don’t be afraid to look at rentals; it’s a great way to get more bang for your buck.
5. Eye candy. Ultra-skinny shades are super-chic right now. Take a squiz at Poppy Lissiman’s cool specs for ideas.
6. Accessorise. Bring the bling with hi-tech touches to your handbag, tie, or shoes.
7. Make-up. Remember you are channelling the future, so keep it slick and ultra-modern.
Hmm…classic black, full-length, latex, futuristic – sounds like Kim’s got it nailed! Sadly, she can’t make it this year so it’s wide open.
