SplitScreen_2017_BLOG.jpg2017 sees Split Screen celebrating 20 years of working in production in WA with a new brand identity and the addition of a new director to the team.

“It has been a fabulous ride” said founding Producer, Lee Guy-Wallis. “We have seen some incredible changes in the industry and I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing people both locally and from overseas. It has also been wonderful to see the success that some of the old Splitties members have achieved in their careers. From AFI award-winning Director Elissa Down, now working in LA, to Academy Award nominated Director Peter Templeman, to now Producer Sarah Shaw, who can add to her list of credits the acclaimed movie Snow Town.”

For the past eight years, the team of Guy-Wallis and Director Scott Wright have enjoyed great success by adapting to the ongoing changes in the industry and embracing the vast challenges and variations of work presented to them.

This year, Split Screen has added pan-Asian Director Peter Aqulina to the team.

PeterAquilina.jpgAquilina contacted Guy-Wallis late last year to assist with a production from Jakarta, which led to an agreement to work together in Perth on an ongoing basis.

Aquilina is a Perth ex-pat who has spent the past twenty-plus years living in Asia and shooting around the world. His training started in photography and cinematography before a stint in post production during Singapore’s “golden days of advertising”, where he had the opportunity to work with renowned creative directors like Neil French and Linda Locke. The regional exposure offered him the opportunity to launch his directing career.

Since then Aquilina has directed over 250 campaigns for a wide range of genres and clients including Nokia, Yamaha, Honda, JVC, Red Bull, Toyota, Tiger beer, Sapporo and Coca Cola.

Guy-Wallis said Aquilina is a versatile director whose passion for performance and strong visual storytelling has taken him across the region.

“Peter is thrilled at the idea of working back in Perth. He will still be based out of KL, as the bulk of his work is still there, but he has no issue with jumping on a plane and spending time working in his home town.”

She said Aqulina and Wright both brought broad experience and expertise to their work.

“I love the fact that both Scott and Peter have extensive background knowledge in both shooting and editing, which allows them both to add that extra level of experience during pre-production, on-set and during the post process. Plus their many years of directing a variety of work just makes the whole production process just that much more enjoyable.”

Split Screen has also been building an extensive list of corporate clients and the team are available not only for commercial production but all forms of corporate production as well.
