SPAA heading to Western Australia for Working in a Digital Environment: September 6 & 7

SPAA.jpgSPAA Fringe will be teaming up with the SPAA TressCox Digital Masterclass to present a unique opportunity for WA filmmakers, producers and the creative industry to gain insight and knowledge for Working In A Digital Environment. By connecting with industry innovators and peers, participants will be able to develop their projects, business strategies and networks.

The event will kick off on Tuesday September 6th with a meet and greet at the Wolfe Lane Bar, and continue on Wednesday September 7th at the Subiaco Arts Centre with a program of panel discussions, roundtables and case studies.

Speakers include:

Jennifer Wilson – Director of The Project Factory, a multiplatform and transmedia production company. She is passionate about mobile, web, social media and the need to find engagement at the heart of every interaction.

Martin Walsh  – creator and producer of the award winning The Battle of Long Tan documentary.  Since 2005 he has led Digital Marketing at Microsoft, developing and executing global digital marketing strategies.

Ricky Sutton –  head of video for Fairfax Digital, running the largest video team of any of the digital publishers and serving 11 million news-led video clips to 3.5 million people each month.

Cora Spear – Senior Digital Business Leader with a unique blend of senior management experience, digital strategy development, content and digital production.

Marshall Heald – Manager of Online and Content Distribution, SBS. Over the last ten years he’s developed multimedia projects in partnership with many of Australia’s major companies and cultural institutions including The Australia Council, Telstra, Qantas, The National Gallery,The ABC and Triple J.

Brian Rosen brings has a deep knowledge of the international film and television industry, as well as an invaluable understanding of how the Australian industry has evolved over the past three decades.

Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey – founders of Distracted Media in 2010, with their first project being the crowd-funded horror/thriller film The Tunnel. In addition to its conventional modes of release, including a limited release Australian theatrical release, screenings on Showtime Australia, and an Aust and NZ DVD release through Paramount Pictures Australia and Transmission Films, the film has garnered much attention for its unconventional release through BitTorrent.

The SPAA TressCox Masterclass What’s The Deal With Digital will have the opportunity to explore the business and funding models that are gaining traction, along with practical insights into producing for a digital environmentIndustry leaders will provide an up-to-date briefing on the digital content market, audience trends, production partnerships, and what it takes to ensure that the funds and demand for quality Australian content are sustained in a convergent environment. Digital Masterclass Roundtables After hearing what speakers have to say about working within in a digital environment, participants will have the opportunity to discuss specific topics and issues in a 45 minute roundtable session.

Wed 7 September 1.30pm

SPAA Fringe’s Speaking to Your Audience seminar  will focus on how content producers can use online platforms to build and sustain audiences.  The session will explore two case studies, with a close look at the social media strategies employed for Tomorrow When The War Began. Then the team behind The Tunnel will share their insights into the brave online audience engagement and distribution strategy that has led to cross-over success for the film.
