Southern Cross Austereo and the industry celebrates the retirement of great friend and great Perth media professional, Martin Whittle

Southern Cross Austereo said farewell to one of the radio industry’s greatest legends on Friday night with a huge party for retiring sales director, Martin Whittle. 170 guests packed the station’s balcony for the event.

“Party Marty” as he is known to everyone at the station announced in June this year that he was leaving the station after 40 years in the industry. Sadly Martin was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, but as he so beautifully stated on the night, with all the lunches, drinks, golf games and social engagements lined up with his many industry friends, “Alzheimer’s won’t be the thing that gets me!”

Southern Cross Austereo’s Linda Wayman hosted a great night that illustrated the station’s and the industry’s respect and deep affection for Martin and celebrated the huge contribution he has made to the Perth media and advertising industry.

Wayman gave some warm and funny recollections of the last 11 years of working with Martin and presented him with a “Best Sales Director. Ever” award, before playing a hilarious music video created by the station that sums up his time there.

Earlier Mitchells’ Alan Matthews and BBAM’s Andy Bell proved that they were the equal to Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis with a very funny “Roast” double act. It was a great night for a great man.
