South West deal signed with Creative Corner

SW Deal.jpgRegional Development Australia-South West (RDA-SW) has signed a partnership deal with the Creative Corner to drive the creative sector forward in the South West region.

RDA-SW chairman Duncan Anderson said, “The region’s creative industries are worth about $350m per year and involve brilliant people working in film, digital media, communications, music, marketing … and we have people writing apps for mobile phones.

“We want to see the South west become the go-to region for this work. The people here are exceptional and the potential is huge.”

Creative industry workers are linked through the Creative Corner, a not-for-profit organisation that has been championing the creative industries passionately since its inception five years ago. It is best known for the Emergence Creative Festival held in Margaret River which started out in 2013 and has become an annual fixture on the creative calendar.

Creative Corner chairman, Noah Shilkin believes in the sector and its promise to provide jobs and prosperity.

“As we approach the ‘fourth edition’ of our flagship event –  Emergence  2016 – this support will afford us opportunities to consolidate and expand our mandate to benefit, support and grow South West creative industries.

“Our belief is that this benefits the vibrancy and sustainability of the entire region.” Shilkin said.

RDA-SW provided $50,000 to add to $20,000 provided by the South West Development Commission. Both regional development bodies share the SW Blueprint which identifies this new wave of opportunities.

Anderson said, “The momentum is building. Just look at what CinefestOz and people like Alan Lindsay at the Vue Group have achieved. We need to connect everyone and fill in the gaps. The talent is amazing.”
