Sad shark promotes the no cull petition via SHED
Reaction to the Western Australian Government’s decision to start culling sharks using drum lines off Perth beaches has been overwhelmingly negative. The issue has sparked intense debate among the public, not just here in WA but across the globe.
The Conservation Council of Western Australia has launched an online petition urging people to use their voice to implore the government to put an end to this senseless slaughter in favor of other non-lethal scientifically-based alternatives. To promote the petition SHEDcsc developed this ad that will run as posters as well as in press and online.

Killin’ it lately lads. Love this and the undies stuff.
Very nice work boys, keep up the great work. Cheers
C’mon, do you really think the average Joe is going to get that that’s a sad shark face? The closest I got was a sad pencil. PS. I love the undies idea, so I’m easily swayed.
Is the relationship between the typographic characters and a shark supposed to mean anything? Do they resemble the letters that you write on the petition? It’s a sad shark, but why is it made of random letters? Do you txt your petition? Why is the type justified so horrendously? Why is ‘at’ written as an @ in the body copy? Is it meant to refer to an email address? Or is the whole thing generically meant to imply l33t speak because…. the petition is online? None of this makes any sense and it looks like it was built in Microsoft Paint. In 1996.
There are some dumb, anal people out there. Well done Shed.
there’s no sad face shark. why is it made of sad letters? it looks like clown sad face with party hat. c’mon WA creative.
I kind of feel like this is a case of “anything Shed has done lately makes it onto Campaign Brief”. This is mildly clever, but it misses the point and won’t make people take action. In short, agencies are pumping out better creative than this every day – maybe we should be looking a little harder.
This shark cull issue is very emotive but I’m 50/50 on it. What this ad did was make me smile and make me think – more than any other print ad has made me do for quite a while (Liquorland, BWS excepted). Job done.
Hey Designer. Nobody cares what you think OK.
This is a great ad that will surely pick up at the PADC’s. Why don’t you go back to designing a ‘logo’ and leave the real work to us.
“Love it”… I don’t think an ad for a petition against a shark cull is supposed to make you smile.
That’ll do sounds jealous that hi/her agency doesn’t send stories in to Campaign Brief.
You can’t blame the Shed guys for pumping up the publicity of their agency. As a agency supplier they come across as a busy, enthusiastic and fun whereas most others come across as busy, tired and boring.
“agencies are pumping out better creative than this every day” really? name one ad from 2014 that’s better?
Ad Guy relax bro. Designers can have an opinion.
Jeeez, he was just making a comment about the sad faced shark.
I thought it was a clown face as well but I didn’t say anything.
Grab a Yoken or an Arline 70 and render the word CHILL and stick it n your wall.
Or ring a designer and have a chat about the difference between Helvetica Black Extended and Arena Black Extended.
Hey Ad guy, designer is Creative and AD.
For ‘Ad guy’ ‘That won’t do’ and everyone else being defensive.
Of course designers can have an opinion – and you better believe the public will.
Remember them?
Yeah, they’re the ones that have to get it, because they pay your ‘Ad guy’ wages.
So. Be honest. It’s a average execution.
A little first-thought and unclear, but that’s what it is. No worse, no better.
If nobody critiques the work in town, nobody will improve.
Fatuous comments like….’will surely pick up at the PADCs’ gives a very poor impression of Perth clinging to small town thinking on a mass scale.
Aren’t we all better that that?
