Rupert Murdoch visits Perth
Recently Rupert Murdoch came to Perth for a whirlwind visit including a stop at The Sunday Times – his first in over 10 years. An exclusive cocktail party was held at The Sunday Times new building where agency representatives, staff and clients chatted with Mr Murdoch about his thoughts on the evolving industry and in particular the evolution of digital news.
Mr Murdoch clearly has a soft spot for Perth as he spoke of hisfondness for The Sunday Times – the first newspaper he purchased in hisvast stable of mastheads. He recognised “boom town” Perth as asignificant and important market for News Limited.
Mr Murdoch was presented with a plaque made of newsprint and acrylicthat featured his image as he was back in the day of The Sunday Times’newspaper purchase in 1954. The striking plaque portrayed Mr Murdoch’sinvolvement with the evolution of newspapers to online news and will beon display at The Sunday Times new building.
