Perth_Survey-7-2016_Share_BLOG.jpgThe seventh GfK Metro Radio Survey for 2016 is one of those results that will have a few people scratching their heads.

Mix 94.5 has strengthened its #1 position P10+, with a +1.3% rise to a 16.9% share.

It dropped -0.3% to 24.9% in its heartland of P40-54, but was still clearly #1. It also recorded another big gain in P55-64, +6.0% to 25.1% share.

It was a poor survey for Nova 93.7, which dropped -6.4% to 25.7% in P10-17 and -6.1% to 11.9% in P18-24. It also suffered a slight drop of -0.1% in P25-39 to 16.8% but made gains of +2.6% in P40-54 and +1.1% in P55-64. It’s a set of results that will perplex the station and no doubt have them making a call to GfK to check the figures.

Hit92.9 took over the #2 position P10+ with an 11.6% share. The station’s biggest gain was +2.8% in P25-39 followed by +1.1% in P40-54. It’s the second consecutive gain for the station in P40-54, which is not exactly its target audience.

It also wasn’t great survey for 96FM. It slipped -1.0% to 7.4% P10+ and recorded losses in all demos except PP18-24, where it went up +2.1% to an 8.1% share..

6PR was up +0.9% to 7.6% P10+. Bizarrely, its biggest gain was +3.3% in P10-17 while at the other end of the scale it dropped -1.4% to 16.2% share in its strongest demo P65+. However offsetting that were gains of +2.7% in P40-54 and +2.2 in P55-64.

6IX had a solid survey maintaining its 5.0% share P10+. It recorded gains across most younger demos (including +1.8% in P10-17 which more than doubled its audience share for that group) but dropped share in its key older demos: -1.6% to 9.3% in P55-64 and -2.2% to 6.1% in P65+.

In the Battle of Breakfast, Mix 94.5’s Clairsy, Matt & Kymba held on to their #1 position despite a fall of -0.4% to 14.6%. Nova 93.7s Nathan, Nat & Shaun also dropped -0.4% to 11.9%.

Interestingly, most Breakfast shows including ABC stations recorded falls except 6PR (+1.2% to 10.0%), hit92.9 (+0.9% to 11.4%) and 6IX (+0.1% to 3.6%).

Mix 94.5 recorded a monster lift in its Cumulative Audience, +38,000 listeners to 582,000 P10+. In contrast, Nova 93.7 dropped 28,000 to 542,000. Like we said, if they haven’t had one already GfK can expect a call.

Mix 94.5 also recorded the biggest Average Audience of 37,000 P10+.
