Perth Radio Survey 4/2013 results released
Results from the Nielsen Metro Radio Survey 4/2013 were released this morning and it’s a monster result for 96fm.
The station took the #1 spot P10+ with a 13.5% share, ahead of Mix 94.5 with 12.3% and Nova 93.7 on 12.2%. It’s a year since 96fm shocked the market and pinched the top position from Mix 94.5 after 100 consecutive surveys at number 1. It was only for that survey but they’ve been thereabouts ever since.
96fm’s overall result was helped by a huge 7% gain in Mix 94.5 heartland of P40-54 to take the #1 spot in that demo. 96fm recorded a 21.2% share ahead of Mix 94.5 on 17.4% and Nova on 13.8%.
It was a mediocre survey for AM stations 6PR and 6IX, with slight rises in some demos offset by falls in others. Overall 6PR slipped 0.1% to 8.2% and 6IX dropped 0.6% to 5.9% (P10+).
Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun was again the #1 commercial Breakfast on 12.3% over Mix 94.5’s The Bunch on 12.1% and 96fm’s Blackers, Carmen & Fitzi on 11.4%. ABC 720’s Eoin Cameron was #1 overall on 12.9%.
The audience numbers show some interesting results. The Average Audience figures show 96fm is particularly strong in Mornings and Afternoons, where it recorded an average audience of 53,000 for each session. It was the only station to record more than 50,000 listeners for any session.
Nova recorded some big Cumulative Audience numbers – 470,000 for P10+, 440,000 M-F, 5.30am – Midnight and 289,000 in Breakfast. After more than a decade of largely predictable results, this survey confirms Perth’s radio market has become an ultra-competitive three-way tussle.
