Perth media in fine voice as Dentsu Aegis Network WA hosts karaoke competition

Second only to the Eurovision Song Contest, the Dentsu Aegis Network hosted their inaugural Karaoke competition last Thursday .

The competition was fierce and was comprised  of budding artists who either sang in groups or  solo performers with back-up dancers, representing most of the agency’s media partners.

The winners were ‘Guns n Roses’ (formerly known as Jay Morris , Simone Wilkinson and Dennie Chung from News Ltd) with a rousing rendition of Sweet Child of Mine.

Runner-up was Anthony Jones  from Community newspapers with his performance of I Want to Dance with Somebody. Special mention must go to his back-up dancer, Jodie Aurisch.

And then there was  Media Tonic’s  Mark  Treasure and James Van Grootel who apparently sang Dancing in the Moonlight – although that’s a best guess – which earned them the Wooden Spoon award.

Special mention needs to go to Nine Entertainment as the girls were led by two wannabe rappers (Tom and Jordan) and MCN – the girls ably (?) led by Paul Townsend who managed to set off the fire alarm when the smoke machine went awry nearly bringing an early end to the evening.

Those who were too shy to participate in the official competition seemed to gain Dutch courage as the evening wore on (perhaps fuelled by a few alcoholic beverages), so most in attendance actually put a microphone in their hands and attempted to serenade the adoring crowd.
