PADC President Spencer Battista reflects on the year that’s passed and where to next: AGM on April 18 with 4 new Committee members sought

Spencer_Battista_2013_BLOG.jpgIt’s the time of the year to reflect on what we have achieved as a Club.

The PADC launched its new brand and vision for the future this time last year, as well as launching a new website in June. The website was an integral part of bringing all entries together for our PADC Awards. I would like to thank Tune In Tokyo, Karen Marks and the Committee for its creation.

Last year the PADC Trivia night was a huge success with 135 brains packed into the Broadway Pub, Nedlands. Some traditional teams used their grey matter, and some digital natives used their fast fingers, search engines and mobiles, but all had a great night.

The Festival of Ideas in September was also well attended with excellent speakers including The Fully Sick Rapper – Christiaan Van Vuuran, Nick Garrett from Colenso BBDO, and producer Jonathan Samway to name a few, plus an attendance crowd of 65. It was a great day and night at the Rose & Crown in Midland, and a very entertaining and thought-provoking event.

The annual PADC Awards was held in November at Frasers Reception Centre in Kings Park, the theme of the night was James Bond, The Quest for the Golden Skull. Again, I would like to say thank you to all who made this great night possible, to all our Sponsors and also to all who attended and supported the PADC Awards. It was a fantastic night and one that was rightly deserved considering the year that had passed.

The highlight for me on the night was to have the Chairman of Judges, Craig Davis present and comment on the very worthy Gold winners. As well as the picturesque view of the City of Perth, which was the perfect backdrop to celebrate what was the best creativity produced in WA for 2011/2012.

All in all a great evening, and word around the ballroom was that it was a very successful night.

This year the Club will be venturing in some exciting partnerships, and also how we can align ourselves with Award (we will keep you all informed on that in due course).  At the same time we will be reviewing our award categories to ensure that they are relevant to the industry, now and in the future.

Last year’s Committee did a fantastic job and I would like to make special mention of Karen Marks, she is the absolute backbone of the Club. This year proved to be particularly challenging due to some committee members resigning their positions due to work commitments, but that aside I would like to thank Blair McLeish Curtin, Tim Newton Gatecrasher, Verity Fitzgerald Verity Productions and Mike Sequeira 303Lowe for their solid efforts throughout the year.

This brings me to the 2013 AGM. This year we are having our AGM in a shed. On Thursday 18 April 2013 we will hold the inaugural ‘PADC AGM plus Trivia Night’ at The Shed, 69 Aberdeen Street, Northbridge.

We will let you know all the details as soon as they have been finalised.

In the meantime, we are seeking nominations for 4 new Committee members to fill the positions of:

•     Communication/Marketing Officer

•     Funds and Sponsorship Officer

•     Digital Officer

•     Student Member

This is a great chance to join committee, and learn from, or give back to the Advertising Industry.

Please download the form here: PADC 2013 CALL FOR NOMINATIONS.pdf

Nominations will need to be returned to the Club Manager by no later than Friday 6 April 2013.  Email to admin@padc.com.au or post to PO Box 394 Bayswater WA 6053.

The support for the Club so far this year has been great, so please come and have your say by voting for your committee for the next 12 months.
