PADC Annual General Meeting and industry bowling night: Wednesday, June 2

| | No Comments

The PADC Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 2 at the Rosemount Bowl, Fitzgerald Street, North Perth.

PADC AGM’s are usually barely attended affairs so this year it’s being combined with an industry bowling night at the Rosemount Bowl in North Perth. The AGM held at the Mosman Park Lawn Bowls Club a few years ago was the best attended ever, so hopefully some ten pin bowling will entice members to come along to this important meeting.

Dates for the 2010 Festival of Ideas and PADC Awards have also been set. Here’s an update from President Andrew Tinning:

AndrewTinning_2.jpgIt’s that time of the year to reflect on what we have achieved, thenget the ball rolling once more to complete the tasks for the yearahead. 2009 was a very good year for the Club.  We weatheredCyclone GFC and despite the havoc it wrecked on our industry, wemanaged to deliver two successful events; the Festival of Ideas and thePADC Awards Night.

This year saw a change of venues for bothevents. After several years of braving the crossing to Rottnest, theFestival of Ideas was relocated to a limestone cave adjacent to thehistoric Yanchep Inn. Our panel of speakers was made up ofsome of our local industry’s biggest success stories, and the knowledgethey brought back home to share with us was inspirational.

TheConsensus from delegates was that it was a fabulous location and agreat weekend.  With that level of endorsement behind us, we will bereturning to the cave this year on 11 & 12 September for anothertwo days of highly potent creative juice.

We kept the localtheme going for the Award night where we invited two industry legends,Mr Vaughan Sutherland and Mr. Gordon Dawson, to take to the stage andlead us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the PADC Awards. The shift to Burswood proved popular and the hosts bought the house down with their anecdotes and onstage antics.

Allin all it was a fantastic evening and word on the street was that itwas the best show in years. They say ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’so we have booked the ballroom again and will be celebrating our 21stbirthday at Burswood on Friday 29 October 2010.

This year theClub is investing in an updated online award entry system that willmake entering and paying a lot more user friendly.  At the same time wewill be reviewing our award categories to ensure that they are relevantto the industry, now and in the future.

Last year’s Committeedid a fantastic job and I would like to make special mention of KarenMarks who stepped into an enormous pair of shoes with the departure ofLiz Bindon-Bonny to take on the role of Club Manager. Regardlessof the extra grey hairs and dramatic rise in blood pressure Karen hassurvived her baptism of fire and done a stirling job and she hasthankfully agreed to stay on in the role.

This brings me tothe 2010 AGM. This year we intend to do something different.  We arepartnering with Double G to host an event that we hope will become aPADC tradition.

On Wednesday 2 June 2010 we will hold theinaugural PADC AGM and Industry Bowling night at the Rosemount Bowl inNorth Perth. We will let you know all the details as soon as they havebeen finalised.
