I’m on the PADC committee this year because, to be honest, over the last few years the award nights have been very disappointing and there was no point in moaning if I wasn’t prepared to roll up my sleeves and do something about it.
I think it is vitally important that we have a strong local awards program and a bloody good awards night. I don’t subscribe to the view that we can’t support two nights a year. Bloody hell, get a life guys! Some of us go to 7 big nights in row in June so two in a year is nothing.
So, why will this year’s event be any better? OK, I know it is close to Christmas but if you don’t have another function, this promises to be a great party. A proper, posh do in a hotel. Importantly, the awards will be put back on the pedestal where they deserve to be. Mark Braddock has designed an amazing new Gold gong and there will be a special prize for the young Creative Champion who does not work in a creative department. So suits, planners, media people, production people will have a chance to be recognised for their key role in encouraging great work.
It’s time to get behind this great night – we are expecting 350 to 400 people. And lots of media companies, suppliers and industry partners have donated money to make sure it is a success. They deserve our support too.
Please come. Celebrate Perth’s rising creative standards (11 AWARD finalists this year). And please bring your partners.
See you there, buy me a drink.

Paul. good for you. It will be a good night but the judging was months ago and mid December is the wrong time of the year to put it on
8.44 – yes I agree the timing is far from ideal but irrespective of the reasons, it is when it is and there is nothing we can do about it now.
We all have a choice – support the awards or let them die. It’s up to all of you out there.
The committee knows that the timing needs to be addressed for next year but let’s just deal with this year. If we can get 350-400 on December 12 it bodes well for 2009. PY
Well said Paul. A little less belly-aching and a lot more celebration can’t help but be a good thing for all of us. Sure, there are always a million reasons not to go to something – can we stop the windgeing and have a few drinks.
Good one Paul but i also have a problem with the lateness of the awards as it’s possible we will be awarding ads that were conceived almost 2 years ago. The awrads night needs to be earlier to keep it relavant. And before someone says AWARD is the same, i’d like to say that AWARD should be earlier too.
I’d like to congratulate he who made the poster, very nice work.
2:06 I know it is hard to believe having seen the comments on some of the other threads recently, but there are actually quite a lot of women how are actually getting noticed for the great work they they are doing – amongst them Julia. She is the ‘she who made the poster’.
PY & 2:06, great post.
Julia, great poster.
Fri 6:30, let’s get pissed.
Don’t forget Brett regarding the poster design
