NO BULLSHIT. JUST GREAT TALENT AND A LOT OF FUN AT THE BULLSHIT BAND NITE

Hats off to Ross Tinney! Over a decade ago the Perth director was the the driving force behind an annual event called the PADC Bullshit Band Nite. However his very successful stint running his company in Asia meant the plug was pulled on the event. Until Friday night when, together with PADC Manager Liz Bindon-Bonney, Ross resurrected the night at the Floreat Hotel.

Six industry bands entertained a crowd of around 200. Each band proved to be equally entertaining and talented in their own way. The night kicked off with Ross Tinney fronting an all-star band from Cooch that included Spencer Battista on drums. Ross had the judges swayed with three songs including Free’s legendary anthem “All Right Now”.

Second on the stage was The Brand Agency’s “The Fuzzy Fuckers” who sang five songs that could easily be from the sound track of Deliverance. Fronted by that famous Saskatchewan singing sensation, Kurt Beaudoin, The Brand really got the crowd going and certainly won the most entertaining award, plus the Best Midriff award.

Next up was The Workhouse Wobbles who sang a lovely kiddies song about having sex with transvestites and Dorothy the Dinosaur. Spud Murphy and the Tayter Peelers were up next with a few Irish songs and a couple of funny gags.

Then the girls from 303 took the stage (well there were a few men in the band but no one noticed them!). Lead by music diva Donna-Marie Gavin they brought the house down with two or three songs that the judges can’t remember today but they sounded and looked great on stage so scored highly. Last up was a solo act from Marketforce writer, Guy Howlett who took the night to a highly credible level when he belted out an original number whilst playing guitar in a way that would have had Eric Clapton and Slash sit up and take notice.

With both The Brand’s and 303’s groupies looking on menacingly, there was a tense three minutes when votes were tallied, before 303 were announced the winners.
