New PADC President Mark Braddock outlines the vision for the Club and calls for input to strategic plan for an ongoing, sustainable structure
Block Branding co-counder and Creative Director, Mark Braddock (pictured), was elected President of the Perth Advertising & Design Club at the recent AGM. He’s quickly set about reinvigorating the Club and is calling on the PADC’s broader constituency to get involved.
Members & Supporters of the PADC,
I’m Mark Braddock, Creative Director of Block and the newly elected President of the PADC. I’ve served on the PADC committee for five years in the recent past and I’m excited to be back onboard.
I see it as being the PADC’s job to recognise and celebrate the individual’s who create commercial communications in WA – this includes Art Directors, Writers, Producers, Coders, Animators, Photographers, Cinematographers and anyone else who is fundamental in the creation of the work. This is what makes us different to any other industry body, and to this end, we must re-establish the PADC as the collective voice of the individuals who create the work.
2013 was a tumultuous year for the PADC, but the Club has come into 2014 in a strong financial position thanks to the hard work of Karen Marks – our Club Manager, and John Ilian – one of the Club’s founders and a Life Member.
The Club is planning to take a back-to-basics approach to this year, focussing initially on the awards evening to be held again on 7 November at Frasers, West Perth. The Club’s financial security is tied directly to the continued success of the awards night so please keep an eye out for the Call for Entries.
To make our awards more relevant nationally, the Club is working to strengthen our alignment with AWARD, continuing to build on the foundation laid down by my predecessors.
The PADC must become better at engaging those it presently serves, and widening our base to better reflect the nature of the modern communications industry.
The first small step in this direction is the introduction of COMMUNE, a monthly get-together over coffee. COMMUNE is a casual catch up open to all-comers on the third Wednesday of the month with no agenda. The first COMMUNE will be held on Wed April 16 at Gordon Street Garage. Please come down before work, buy a coffee, have a chat and please extend the invitation to anyone you think may be interested but might not yet be on our list.
The PADC’s social media presence has been reactivated, so please take the time to like us on Facebook or @padcskulls on the Twitter. This is the best way to keep up-to-date. Also, if you have links to any interesting bits that you think should be shared with the Club’s followers, please shoot me an email. We’re happy to promote events, interesting work or inspiring comment pieces.
The Club will be reaching out to the creative community over the next few months, but please feel free to contact me any time with your comments or opinions. We have set ourselves the deadline of the end of April to finalise the Club’s strategic plan with a view to creating a perpetual, sustainable structure for the Club – so all input is appreciated.
Yours Presidentially,
Mark
