At first look, I was going to jump on the bandwagon and pontificate how the strategic thinking for this ad was flawed and the creative execution lacked a big idea.
…..then I had a second look as a normal person. These ads are f’king brilliant! Totally appeal to the target audience who shop at Ikea and wedged in between CSI:Miami/NY/Los Angeles/Las Vegas, it will be remembered and talked about long after the fun finishes.
Simply awful, its just lifted from the UK campaign, but not done anywhere nearly as well….and before you say we don’t have the budgets they have, the truth is theirs wasn’t expensive to start with, they just executed it a lot better.
Ian, I understand how they have lifted it from Ikea UK – but I don’t see how this one is any worse – or how the UK executed theirs a lot better. The talent is just as good – the only obvious difference is an animated flying house. Woopdy-doo!
1) Carpet Choice? Europcar? Seriously?
‘Person dancing in a house’ is not some Cannes-magnet, stroke-of-brilliance concept that had never been done before and therefore should never be ‘plagiarised’…
2) Face Value: That animated flying house is what makes the UK spots work (I was joking at first – but now I’m not sure)
3) I think there is a very clear reason Ikea would duplicate almost identically (minus the flying animated house..) spots that have already run in the UK. Probably a very smart way to invest in 15sec spots (hurts a bit to say it though)
Kind of funny
Thanks for clearing that up. I think the issue here is the suggestion that “303Lowe has created a series of 15-second ads to promote the IKEA Sale.” They haven’t. They have produced the spots. They were created in the UK some time ago. Can’t see too many WA people knowing or caring about that, but it’s odd that 303Lowe would choose to put them up here.
Surely, you would only put ads on this site that you thought were half descent. everyone start submitting your 10×2 pointer ads – its a free for all after this poor excuse for a campaign

It still gives you that warm and fuzzy, so does it matter?
Damn.
Oh dear.
These are possibly the worst ads to come from IKEA yet! No thought whatsoever has gone into these. Clearly no budget and no creativity.
wow – did this brief actually make it to the creative studio or was it swap jobs day at 303 and this was done by the suits?

Could have been worse. A lot worse. Imagine if the local client had said “we want you to do this, like all those crazy guys in our other markets”

I cannot stand these adverts, never a good sign when you change the channel just to avoid an ad….
