Amnesty International Australia (AIA) have partnered with creative agency Longtail to produce a timely and hard-hitting reminder about offshore detention centres.

“We know that Australians value the idea of home. We also know that for refugees in places like Manus and Nauru, home is a distant memory and a dwindling hope,” said Longtail Lead Creative, Tom Bradbeer. “We brought these insights together and developed a campaign that focused on the same thing our target audience would be focusing on around tax-time.”

The #noplacelikehome campaign features a hard-hitting film celebrating the idea of home – as described by Aussie children. This emotional foundation is then shattered as the film reaches fever-pitch and switches to real footage from off-shore detention centres – home to the refugees detained there, but also places of fear and terror.

“Home is where we can feel happy, safe and secure. It’s a place to laugh, love and create memories with those around us. There’s no place like it,” said Michael Hayworth, Campaigns Manager at Amnesty International Australia.

“This video is a reminder that we’d give anything to provide children with a safe home, and we should extend that same human kindness to everyone.”

Hayworth said the video was released ahead of World Refugee Day on 20 June to demonstrate the danger, deliberate abuse and suffering caused by the Australian Government’s offshore detention regime.
