Murray Scott named Young Executive of the Year as WA Printing celebrates industry excellence
Innovation was the key theme for the WA Printers Annual Ball on Saturday night; celebrating excellence in the print, packaging, and visual communication industry in Western Australia, and acknowledged the special efforts of printers by awarding their best work.
For almost 40 years Western Australia has upheld the tradition of celebrating print by holding the revamped WA Printers Annual Ball, with the inauguration of a Winners’ Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Administered by the Printing Industries Association of Australia, the event has was held in conjunction with the Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA) presentation dinner.
Printing Industry Association of Australia CEO, Jason Allen, said hundreds of members and non-members came together, relishing the new event format and making the most of informal networking and social opportunities on offer.
“The new format of the event reflects the changing world of the industry. We are committed to ensuring the competitiveness, protection and innovation of the industry and we’re evolving our events to ensure they appeal to more contestants, sponsors and the wider community. This year marked thirty-eight years of Western Australia supporting the printing industry through these awards. They’re a testament to the hard work and dedication to all of the award winners and it is fantastic to see the WA community continuing to lead the industry.”
“SMEs certainly showed the industry just how important they are; over 75 per cent of PIAA membership are SMEs. Overall, the industry comprises some 5,314 businesses spread across Australia directly employing 28,896 people; and combined with the pulp, paper and paperboard sector (3,404 people) the industry is the fifth largest employer and seventh largest manufacturing sector.”
A total of forty-three category awards were recognised in the Winners’ Hall of Fame with Advance Press taking home the prestigious final Best of Category Award, recognised for upstaging all other entries with their Rio Tinto Diamonds 2015 Calendar.
“It is always a great honour to win Best of Category Award,” said Paul Meloncelli Director of Advance Press. “The award is a great testament to all of our hard work throughout the year.”
Also announced on the night was the coveted Media Super Young Executive of the Year, recognising the achievements and leadership qualities of the younger generation in the industry, awarded to Murray Scott from Picton Press (pictured at top).
“It’s great to be recognised through the Media Super Young Executive of the Year Award. To have been nominated by my employer is wonderful recognition for the effort that I invest in my role,” said Scott. “To be selected by Media Super as the winner of this award for Western Australia, up against many young, innovative and quality members of the printing industry is truly an honour. The support of Media Super for this award is an investment in the future of our industry and provides an important platform from which young leaders and executives can be heard on both a state and national level.”
