Murdoch to become the first WA campaign for news.com.au Snapchat Discovery Edition
News Corp WA has announced Perth’s Murdoch University as Western Australia’s first exclusive advertising campaign to be run through the news.com.au Snapchat Discovery Edition. The five week sponsorship went live today.
The Murdoch ‘Offers’ campaign targets school leavers and parents of school leavers, with the aim of increasing first choice applications to Murdoch University, and encouraging those who are unhappy with their current offer to switch. The Snapchat channel provides an opportunity for Murdoch University to reach a younger audience through the increasingly popular channel.
The Snapchat app is one of the most popular apps on the iTunes app store, with 2,000,000 active monthly users in Australia. Currently, 47% of snapchat users are aged between 16 and 25 years old. The news.com.au discovery edition has an average of 15,000 unique views per day.
Paul Clayton from Murdoch University said they were very excited to be the first in WA to advertise on news.com.au Snapchat Discovery Edition.
“It’s a platform that’s perfect for building brand awareness among our key target audience – namely, high school leavers, which are often challenging to reach and engage via other channels.”
“We’re very excited to be delivering this innovative product to meet the growing popularity of our digital channels,” said News Corp sales director Jay Morris. “This is a WA exclusive for NewsCorp, and is an opportunity that competitors can’t offer. We are looking forward to seeing the positive response from public. NewsCorp would like to thank and recognise the support of Murdoch University and Initiative Media Perth in helping us to achieve this milestone. It is the result of a huge amount of collaboration between our team and reflects our commitment to driving innovation in the digital landscape.”
Murdoch University will exclusively sponsor the Snapchat Discovery Edition for fourteen days, and will feature up to two, ten second, full screen video ads per day. The campaign will focus heavily on Engineering, Business and Law studies. Morris said the sponsorship is a first in WA for news.com.au and is an opportunity that competitors cannot currently offer.
