More international productions for Split Screen as Netflix USA and Film Scape Malaysia shoot in WA

Netflix USA and Film Scape Malaysia have joined the increasing list of international clients shooting in WA with the team at Split Screen Productions.

Recently a 20 strong crew from the US came to Perth as part of a global shoot documenting the Magcon Tour, featuring the highest ranking, young social media celebrities from the US and the UK including massive teenage star, Cameron Dallas.

Producer Lee Guy-Wallis said it was great for Split Screen to be involved and to work with a team who are known internationally for their Netflix productions.

“These on-going opportunities we are getting in WA, with a diverse cross section of production companies from around the world, is arming us with some of the latest production trends that we can then share with our local clients” said Guy-Wallis. “From  the ‘shoot on the run’, reality TV style of production that the US and Chinese crews shot here – we are still reeling from producing a shoot with over 200 Chinese only speaking crew – to the more stylised TV scripted drama the Singapore and Malaysian production teams recently produced here”.

Interestingly, the drama for Film Scape Malaysia was specifically written with Perth in mind. Director Kabir Bhatia had already experienced a shoot in WA as part of a TV commercial he directed for Tourism Australia and pushed for a motorbike riding and accident scene to be shot in Perth due to the diverse scenery.

“The main issue for the shoot was having to match the exact motorbike that they used in the Malaysian elements,” said Guy-Wallis. “Turns out there are only eight in Australia and we tracked down the only one in WA. It took a lot of ground work but we got it. Bhatia was suitably impressed with the production abilities in Perth and was hinting to have elements of his next project, a multi-million dollar feature, to be filmed here.

“It’s fantastic that Split Screen is being recognised on a world level for our professionalism and WA is rocketing skywards as a preferred location. We’re now working with a production team from USA Today as well as a Bollywood production team who are wanting to come to our little town to shoot”.

Split Screen has had a diverse mixture of work, from international shoots, to local commercial production for agencies including Marketforce, Bear In Black, 303 MullenLowe and SHEDcsc.  Their corporate side, Solo Films, has also been busy with ongoing productions for Gina Rinehart’s iron ore mine Roy Hill plus work for GE Oil and Gas, Royal Life Saving WA and C-Bus Property as well as recently produced work for an Aboriginal Women’s Leadership Program run by Leadership WA.
