More CB Award winners – Tony Scampoli is Ad Person; Channel 9 is Media Organisation of the Year; Royal Life Saving is Client of the Year
Gatecrasher enjoyed an excellent year in 2009 and much of that is down to managing director Tony Scampoli’s leadership of the agency. Over the past 18 months Scampoli has emerged from behind the “Adam & Lori” shadow and has become not only a driving force at Gatecrasher, but a significant industry figure. This saw Scampoli awarded the annual Ad Person of the Year award at the Campaign Brief Awards tonight.
Scampoli had fine company for finalists: David Bignold (The West), Ronnie Duncan (Meerkats), Brad Habib (Soundbyte), Steve Harris (Brand Agency), Alan Taylor (303) and Paul Yole (Brand Agency).
For the third time in as many years a different media organisation has won Media Organisation of the Year. But in marked contrast to last year’s runaway win by Austereo, this year it came right down to the wire, with the last couple of votes received deciding the award in favour of Channel Nine by the narrowest of margins. It marks a steady improvement by Nine in the eyes of Perth’s senior media managers. Over the three years this award has been presented, Nine ranked 8th in the first year, 3rd last year and now number 1. Third was Evoke Media, followed by Nova and The Sunday Times.
Advertiser of the Year went to Royal Live Saving WA, a client of 303 that has produced effective and award-winning campaigns over many years.
Supernova of the Year went to The Brand Agency planner Meredith Simpson (left). This award recognises outstanding young people who will be future leaders of our industry. Four of the five finalists were from The Brand Agency.
Campaign of the Year was won by HBF for ‘Your Health is all that Matters’ via Meerkats.

Congrats Tony! Well deserved!
Great choice. Congratulations Tony!
Can Kim or Martin please tell me what Gatecrasher won or at least provide a list of their finalists on the night?
3.33 if u were there last night u would have picked up the awards mag with all the results
7.38
I would guess that 3.33 was indeed there on the night but is making a snippy comment aimed at CB’s judging criteria for the awards. In their eyes, the inability of Kim or Martin to provide the information they requested on here would be a public admission that Tony in some way didn’t deserve the award. Which is of course balls. My guess is they are quite closely connected to someone who they felt should have won instead. In time the feelings of anger will pass and they will accept it was a good choice.
Surely everybody knows this is a ‘hand down the pants award’ basically to pad the night out. The one that really counts went to the right company. End of story.
3.33 is suggesting that the award is related to awards won, but surely its a little more personality based than that?
God bless you all.
3.33, as MD it’s not Tony’s job to win creative awards. Gatecrasher had fantastic year in almost every other area of performance and Tony was the main driving force, particularly in new business.
He totally deserves this recognition and probably should have got it even sooner.
Congrats Tony, Meredith, Royal Life Saving and Meerkats. All deserving winners.
Great night on Friday too. Well done Oasis & CB.
Nice one Tony! May you have many many more successes personally and with GC alike.
When are we going to have an award for Best Media Agency as voted by the various Media organisations and a list of the top 10?
