MONDAY MORNING CREATIVE HIT
Because we were desperate to keep up the Olympic theme for this morning’s ‘Creative Hit’ CB spent a few hours over the weekend checking out websites and also the Channel 7 and SBS coverage. One thing was soon apparent – no creative inspiration could be gained from any of the TV commercials that we saw. Boring, jingoistic stuff from Telstra, McDonalds, Qantas, Coles and the like that really started to grate after the 20th viewing. Then we have some weird local-based commercials like the Red Rooster “We’re not a sponsor of the Olympics but we’re red like China” commercial.
If you have a favourite commercial (or one you hate) from the coverage let us know about it here.
In the meantime here are a few international spots with an Olympics theme that are doing the rounds on the web:
Adidas “Countdown”
Coca Cola “Bird’s Nest”
ESPN “Michael Phelps”
US Olympic Committee “Asterisk”

I saw the tail end of a RAC ad that wasn’t bad. It was stop-motion and formed a flag.
Much better than that shit Qantas ad. That is shocking.
I really liked the Telstra commercial when I first saw it. I also sang along the second time. Now I am ready to throw my handbag at the screen every time I hear it. It’s ruined a good song.
You’re right CB. Watching them one after another does grate on the nerves. Qantas should sack their agency on the spot. As for the Red Rooster stuff, I am still trying to work out what it is saying. It’s ambush tactics but in an apologetic mode. Probably Channel Seven insisted on the disclaimer.
Red Rooster has officially embarrassed themselves. And to the agency behind that commercial, go do something else or just die. Here’s why:
For more than a year, one of the best viral websites is something that has to do with the Beijing logo and its color: http://m3.bestpicever.com/piles/?s=beijinglogo#nav-holder
And at the end of the Red Rooster commercial, the guy is sitting against a wall with red paint everywhere except where he’s sitting.
Research? no they’re just slack.
I read this …”one of the best viral websites is something that has to do with the Beijing logo and its color:” …and my head began to hurt.
Have people really forgotten how to write?
