Michelle d’Almeida is returning to Perth to take up the managing director role at The Sunday Times

Michelle d’Almeida has been appointed managing director of News Limited’s Western Australian operations. d’Almeida, who is currently digital director of The Daily Telegraph, starts in her new role on February 6. Reporting to News Limited’s managing director of group newspapers and digital products Jerry Harris, she will have responsibility for The Sunday Times and perthnow.com.au.

She succeeds Jason Scott who was appointed managing director of News Queensland last month. d’Almeida (pictured left) has worked for News Limited and News Corporation since 1995. She spent her first nine years with the company at The Sunday Times in Perth, beginning her career in 1995 as a senior agency account manager, thereafter being promoted to advertising manager and then classified advertising manager.

In 2004 she moved to America to take the role of director of classified advertising for the New York Post. In early 2006 she was promoted to the role of vice president online and classified advertising. d’Almeida returned to Australia in 2008 as deputy advertising director of The Daily Telegraph. She was promoted to digital director in 2010.

“This broad based experience makes her the ideal candidate to lead The Sunday Times, the division of News Limited she first joined 17 years ago. We are particularly excited that Michelle’s experience leading digital strategy at the New York Post and The Daily Telegraph will help drive the ongoing success of PerthNow in the fiercely competitive West Australian online news market.”
