The spot beat a strong list of over 20 finalists in the competition, run each year by Austereo. Over the years more than $350,000 has been awarded to Perth creatives in the competition, which still carries Australia’s biggest cash prize.

Coghlan had two finalists this year – a Murdoch University spot was co-written by Coghlan and Rodrigo Cassini. The Lotterywest Mother’s Day spot was written by Coghlan. This is the second time he has won the award, having first won it in 2009.

Coghlan is pictured above (second on the left) at yesterday’s presentation lunch with Tom Wilson (Meerkats), Kurt Beaudoin (Meerkats) and Josh Edge (Longtail). He is also pictured holding the award with Austereo Managing Director Linda Wayman.

The winning spot was produced by Brad Habib from Soundbyte. Soundbyte was also Top Studio having produced the most finalists, although this was the subject of some conjecture from the Brainestorm guys.
