The Gruen Transfer returns to ABC1 this Wednesday, March 18 at 9pm with WilAnderson, Todd Sampson and Russel Howcroft, plus guests Dan Gregory andJane Caro. The panel looks at Australian Tourism and Recessionadvertising, Michael Phelps is the subject for Endorse Me and on ThePitch, McCann Erickson (Melbourne) goes head-to-head with Marketforce to sell nuclear reactors.
Marketforce creative director Andrew Tinning said the brief was that an international nuclear energy company wishes to establish a chain of reactors across Australia.
“People have no issue with the power, but how do you convince them to have a reactor on their doorstep? A challenge to say the least.”

Probably better than any other MF work this year.
Interesting to see how the public vote on this show differs from the experts. 303 lost out to Marmalade last series and yet the public overwhelmingly voted for their ad (69% to 31%) http://www.abc.net.au/tv/gruentransfer/poll/vote/past.htm
Yes, 303 worker, isn’t it interesting? Ah, no actually, I think it is not.
The ‘experts’ are bunch of overpaid tossers, only opening their mouth to say something that will make them seem funnier and more likeable than they really are, and the general public are more used to ads about ‘rugs, rugs, rugs’ and find crude puns and first-thought advertising a total lark. There will always be discrepancies.
I generally enjoy Will Anderson and I certainly enjoy great advertising, but somehow, I hate this fucking show. It has an air of pretentiousness that lurks like a Hyde Park bum’s arse.
Good on MF for winning though. Please, please no one use the ‘k’ word here…
The public? I’d suggest the votes are measure of how well the agencies marshal their own to man the phone.
9.50 grow up.
You 303 guys got your feelings hurt bad, huh? You’re still harping on the vote.
11.26.
Kudos to mf for winning Gruen. Although how would you know that?
I’ll say it again. 9.50 grow up.
11:26 You forgot your spoiler alert.
OH NOES!
11.48. Interesting theory. But given the NZ show got 11000 calls as opposed to the average 1500 for the rest of the series, I’m guessing it’s more about the level of engagement the pitches encourage. Interesting to see how many public votes tonight’s show gets.
5:37 – calls in are the very worst form of poll taking.
The results should be clarified as:
Percentage of calls received from persons who are willing to spend time and money on calling.
what is this ‘groin transfer’?
is this adspeak for sexytime?
Well done Marketforce. Nice to see a WA shop get up.
Interesting theory JunkWaffler. Let’s just see the percentage of people willing to spend time and money on calling after tonights show.
it’s 10.03pm.
Agency: McCann Erickson – Pitcher: Vince McSweeney 49%
Agency: Marketforce – Pitcher: Andrew Tinning 51%
251 votes counted
Only 11,000 to go…
I watched the Gruen this evening (from the east). Credit where credit is due.
I would think that the WA ad industry would applaud one of its own. Good one Tinning and to the rest of Marketforce, nice one.
Andrew, you did a great job tonight, sorry you left NZ
Why oh why. Andrew is hot but Julia is hotter, she makes my stack smoke.
Two thumbs up, Marketforce. That was bloody well funny.
Well done guys. Loved the thinking.
This is fantastic and utterly justified for the best agency in Perth BAR NONE!
Can’t we all just get along?
I wanted to actually see the two ads before commenting on the uselessness of these types of polls.
CONSENSUS: Kinda ignored the brief, but great ad Marketforce. (Especially love the gut Steve.) On the merit of the creative, a much deserved win.
The other guy possibly answered the actual brief more directly, but let’s face it – if we believe watching Foxtel will make our kids more intelligent and result in sandcastle Sphinxes and closer family units, we will probably believe having iconic landmarks in our towns make Nuclear Reactors worthwhile.
Proves you don’t have to reside in Melbourne and have a double-barrelled agency moniker to do good work.
MMM DC
you sound like an overpaid tosser yourself. I actually usually hate Will Anderson but his particular brand of comedy seems to work on this show as opposed to the previous thing he was on – the terrible glasshouse.
Whoops, I stumbled upon the MF intranet by mistake. Sorry guys, carry on,
