Longtail’s Life Lessons for ECU wins Education category at 2014 Australian Web Awards (WA)
ECU Life Lessons, a web interface created by digital agency Longtail Communications in collaboration with ECU’s Marketing team, has won the Education category at the annual Australian Web Awards (WA division). The site is an ongoing digital project for Longtail and ECU, with new modules, films and interactive tours rolling out throughout the year.
The Education award is for websites aimed at supporting the ongoing business of education and recruitment of prospective students, as well as supporting current students and staff.
User experience, accessibility and content are important criteria cited by the judges.
ECU Life Lessons was designed to engage people who may not be thinking about further study, as well as high school students who wanted a richer discovery experience from a university brand. It presents messages centered on conventional wisdom through the use of short videos or clickable tiles.
These messages lead the reader through to ECU’s study areas.
“Traditionally, WA universities tend to be very ‘campaign-centric’ around two main time periods – mid-year intake and Year 12 TISC first preferences,” said Longtail Creative Director Josh Edge. “We wanted to help ECU break out of that paradigm by taking an always on, 24/7 campaign approach, that allowed them to continue to market their brand to students whenever they wanted to interact.”
To complement the Life Lessons interface, ECU’s Digital Marketing team created a new series of one-page websites for the university’s 12 study areas.
