TVW-7 won the week overall (0600-2400) for Total People with acommercial share of 43.9%, followed by NEW-10 with 29.9% and STW-9 with26.1%.

The top performing programme for the week against Total Peoplewas Seven’s AFL: Grand Final: Presentations which reached an averageaudience of 369,000 viewers, followed by Seven’s Grand Final:Collingwood vs St Kilda with 337,000 viewers and 2.76 million viewersnationally. The Grand Final re-match will be aired this Saturday on theSeven Network.

TVW-7 had fifteen of the top twenty programmes whichincluded Seven’s AFL: On the Ground, Packed to The Rafters, Seven’s AFLGrand Final: Post Match, News, Border Security – Australia’s FrontLine, The Force – Behind The Line, Today Tonight and Sunday Night. Theweek saw a new series debut on Seven – Australia Smashes Guinness WorldRecords. It did not make it into the top fifty against Total People.

STW-9 had no programmes in the top twenty against Total People. Theirtop programmes for the week were Two and Half Men RPT, A Current Affairand News. The Sunday Movie – The Dark Knight took seventh spot againstPeople 25-39. The week also saw the return series of The Block on Nine,which was a mega hit for the network in 2003/2004. It just made the topfifty programmes against Total People and the top thirty against People25-39, 25-54 and 35-54.

NEW-10’s Junior Masterchef – Australia lost itstop position against Total People from the previous week, however itremains number one against People 18-39 and 25-39. NEW-10 had tworeturn series this week – Glee and House. Both programmes made it intothe top fifteen against People 25-39 and Glee took tenth positionagainst People 18-39. The week saw the final of Modern Family which hasbeen a rating success for NEW-10, making the top five against all ourdemographics except People 35-54, where it came in eighth.

The top fivepositions in the daytime segment were dominated by seven’s AFL: GrandFinal coverage.

Seven launched its third channel, 7mate, on Saturday September 25 witha simulcast of the AFL Grand Final, which achieved a combined rating of2.76 million viewers across the Seven Network.

MYOB BUSINESS MONITOR

A recent survey by MYOB concluded the following:

  • Only 18% of small and medium Australian businesses are using social media to promote their business
  • 35% have an online presence
  • The most likely users of social media are business in South Australia – 27% – and 24% of these business owners are 18-39
  • In NSW, business owners are most likely to belong to business networks online – 22% – compared to Queensland – 11%
  • WA businesses are more likely to have a website – 40% – for marketingand sales (25%) compared to Queensland  with 32% owning a website and17% using it for sales and marketing
  • Female business owners are more online savvy, with 39% having a website compared to 32% of males
  • Regional businesses are more likely (41%) to have a website than city business (35%)
  • 20% of business use search engine marketing
  • 24% monitor competitive activity online

The Interactive Advertising Bureau of Australia’s is seeking tendersfrom research companies to produce online audience measurement currencydata. The Nielsen Company has announced it is taking part.
