ONLINE

On line shopping in Australia continues to lag behind the US and UK,with an estimated 40% of e-tail spend taking place on overseas sites, new research from Frost & Sullivan has shown.  One thousand on lineconsumers were surveyed about their purchasing behaviour online.Australia’s $12 billion ecommerce market was three years behind that ofthe US and UK. The growth forecast over the next five years ismoderate, with the ecommerce sector predicted to reel in $17.7 billionby 2014. A key reason for the lag in local activity is the lack ofonline presence by many of the large retail chains and departmentstores.

TVN CORPORATION

Telstra Ltd is in discussions with horse-racing broadcaster TVNCorporation Ltd over the acquisition of a 25 per cent stake in thetelevision channel, according to the Australian Financial Review.  Adeal would strengthen the broadcaster’s balance sheet and could helppay for a bid for a rival racing Sky Channel owned by Tabcorp, andwould also boosting the telco’s T-Box content offerings, the paperreports.  Earlier this year, TVN’s talks with Tabcorp over the purchaseof a 51 per cent stake in Sky Channel ended when the parties failed toagree on a purchase price.  A Productivity Commission report releasedlast month said Tabcorp’s ownership of Sky Channel may be damagingcompetition in the sector and should be referred to the AustralianCompetition and Consumer Commission, according to the paper.
