In a week full of AFL, TVW-7 managed to take out the number oneposition by capturing a commercial share of 40.2% for Total Peopleoverall (0600-2400) followed by NEW-10 with 33.5% and STW-9 with 26.3%.
TVW-7 managed to get thirteen of the top fifteen programmes includingPacked To The Rafters, News, Today Tonight, RSPCA Animal Rescue, 2009Brownlow Blue Carpet Special, Highway Patrol, Last Chance Surgery,Better Homes And Gardens, Sunday Night and the 2009 Brownlow Medal. Thefashions at the Brownlow Medal proved to be more popular than the medalcount with the Blue Carpet Special averaging 202,000 while the 2009Brownlow Medal only averaged 174,000 viewers and scraped into the topfifteen.
STW-9 was unable to get any programmes into the top fifteenthis week. Their highest rating show was Thursday’s 20 To 1 with anaverage audience of 169,000. The Grand Final edition of The Footy Showaveraged 154,000 viewers, its highest audience of the season.
NEW-10had the remaining two programmes in the top fifteen. As expcected theAFL Grand Final: St Kilda vs Geelong took out the nuber one positionwith an average audience of 343,000, which was 14,000 viewers up onlast years AFL Grand Final. The other programme was the Post MatchPresenations which averaged 256,000 viewers.
Nationally, Seven won the week with a 34.2% share, Nine was placedsecond with 33.4% and Ten third on 32.4%. The AFL Grand Final on Tenaveraged 2.879 million viewers, 42,000 up on last year’s Grand Final.The Post Grand Final Presentations averaged 2.448 million viewers,whilst Packed To The Rafters was the third most watched programme with1.766 million viewers.
FOXTEL
Foxtel will introduce 30 new channels, an online television service,significant technology upgrades and new channel packages effectiveSunday November 15, 2009. A new download service will be available freeto all subscribers on October 1, 2009.
The 30 new channel choices will be offered across 12 new channel brandsincluding LifeStyle YOU, 13th Street, The Style Network, Eurosport,KidsCo, FMC, STARPICS, showtime action, showtime comedy, showtimedrama, Discovery Turbo MAX and Nat Geo Wild. Foxtel HD+ will provide 15High Definition channels – including four dedicated HD sports channelsand six new HD movie channels.
THE CLIQ
Motorola Inc. unveiled its first handset powered by Google Inc.’sAndroid operating system. Motorola said its new Cliq, which has a touchscreen and slide-out keyboard, will come with software that willaggregate contact information from various social networks and emailaccounts. A key feature of Cliq is social-networking software dubbed”Motoblur,” which syncs into a single stream a users’ phone contacts,emails, posts, feeds and photos from a wide range of messaging andsocial networking services such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace andGmail. The Cliq will be available in the fourth quarter in the U.S.
THE TRADING POST
After more than 40 years the final printed version of The Trading Postwill occur on October 29. The company will continue its online andmobile products only.
OPTUS FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS SURVEY
This survey has confirmed that by the time teens are 13; most of themare more tech savvy than their parents. A further 30 percent of parentsadmit they lag behind their offspring by the age of 15. Children alsohad more experience and understanding of Bluetooth, blogging, cloudcomputing, mobile phone applications, Twitter, visual voicemail, socialnetworking and MMS. Other highlights by state are as follows:
New South Wales
• Have the most mobiles per household.
• Have the most social networkers (44%).
• Has the highest number of children under 13 with mobiles (34%).
• Leads in awareness and trial of web technologies and capability.
• Average in trialing mobile technologies.
• Has the highest number of email or mobile parental checks (28%).
Victoria
• Use their mobile phones more frequently of all states (21% use their mobile more than 10 times a day.
• Enjoy fun (socializing and shopping) over function on the Net.
• Have the most Tweeters in the country (13%).
• Least number of social networkers along with SA.
Queensland
• Have the highest number of heavy internet users in the country.
• Internet usage has increased more than all other states in the last five years.
• 59% of children are more tech savvy than their parents before the age of 13.
South Australia
• Use mobile technologies more than any other state – SMS, MMS, mobile internet.
• Laggers in social networking and internet based communication.
• Joint highest number of online shoppers (along with Victoria) and online auctioneers and bidders.
• Most restrictive with their children re mobile phone usage.
Western Australia
• Highest emailers and video callers nationally.
• Use their mobile phones the least of all states (only 16% use their mobiles more than 10 times a day).
