Despite a small loss in share, TVW-7 once again won the week overall(0600-2400) for Total People with a commercial share of 39.5%, followedby NEW-10 with 30.4% and STW-9 with 30.1%.

This week TVW-7 took outtwelve of the top fifteen programmes with News, Packed To The Rafters,Today Tonight, Find My Family, Triple Zero Heroes, Border Securtiy –Australia’s Front Line, RSPCA Animal Rescue and City Homicide. Aftertaking the top position last week Packed To The Rafters dropped tothird place with an average audience decrease of 8.9%. RSPCA AnimalRescue also had a significant audience loss, with a decrease of 17.7%from the previous week.

Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities had a greatweek,  taking out the number on position for Total People with anaverage audience of 276,000 and increasing its audience by a whopping22.5% from the previous week. Along with Crime Investigation Australia,STW-9 had two programmes in the top fifteen. The surprise programme onSTW-9 has been Customs, which has averaged 160,000 viewers since itbegan on the 9th of February.

NEW-10 had only one programme in the topfifteen with NCIS having an average audience of 176,000. Lie To Mereturned to our screens this week with an average audience of 140,000,which was down 14,000 from the NCIS repeat in its place last week.

Nationally the Seven Network won the week for Total People with acommercial share 38.4%, followed by the Nine Network with 33.5% andNetwork Ten with 28.2%. Not surprisingly Underbelly: A Tale Of TwoCities was the number one programme with an average audience of2,267,016. The second place programme was Packed To The Rafters onSeven delivering an audience of 1,816,904.

DIGITAL RADIO DELAY

According to The Australian,  the launch of digital radio in Australiahas been pushed back due to funding difficulties at the ABC. The majorconsumer launch event and industry-wide switch on will now be held onthe 6th of August. The May 1st date, as previously proposed, will nowserve to test the new signals in the five metropolitan markets, withthe commercial stations still set to begin digital transmission on July1st. A nationwide advertising campaign is set to start next month,despite the delay in roll-out.

The ABC is expected to offer a sports channel that would allow LocalRadio to continue broadcasts during cricket and football coverage andan urban or other spin-off channel from Triple J. Austereo chiefexecutive Michael Anderson confirmed last week that Austereo’s musicnetwork would add another digital channel to its new “radar” channel,which is now test-broadcasting unsigned music. DMG Radio Australia willstart two new channels, the expectation being that each radio networkowner will launch at least one new channel.

CARPARKINK MEDIA

Carparkink Media have just released information that theywill be offering Horizontal Billboards at 1,400 BP sites nationally. InWA there will be a select number of sites that will be available invarious areas of Perth. Carparkink Media are offering 3 sites for 12months at only $30,000 as an introductory offer for their Drive-ThruRunways.

THE WEST SPECIAL PUBLICATIONS CLOSES

The West Australian Special Publication division has closed.  Thecurrent issue of Perth Habitat and Lifestyle (Autumn) is the lastedition produced by the department. This of course also affects PerthVITA and the various small specialist publications put out by the West.

GOLDEN MAIL TO CLOSE

The Golden Mail newspaper partnership today announced the closure ofits free Kalgoorlie newspaper. The partners of the newspaper said theimpact of the current global trading conditions, together withdifficulties in recruiting staff to the mining town had prompted thedecision. This Friday’s edition of the paper will be its last.  Theweekly paper has been published in Kalgoorlie for the past 12 years.The last edition will be published on the 20th of March.
