TVW-7’s commercial share overall (0600-2400) for last week was 40.0%,followed by STW-9 with 30.4% and NEW-10 with 29.6%.

TVW-7’s topperforming programmes for Total People were Today Tonight, Seven News,Packed to the Rafters, Find my Family – Reunions and Air CrashInvestigations. The week saw the series final of Out of the Question,Find my Family, Packed to the Rafters, All Saints, and Thursday nightBones. The 2008 final episode of Home and Away reached an averageaudience of 162,000 People in Perth and Packed to the Rafters reached206,000 People.

STW-9 had two programmes in the top fifteen for TotalPeople with 60 Minutes and CSI: Crime Scene Investigations. The seriesfinal of 60 Minutes made the top five programmes against People 25-39and 25-54 and CSI took second position with People 35-54.

House onNEW-10 took the top position for People 18-39 and Australian Idol – TheWinner Announced just made the top fifteen for Total People with anaverage audience of 178,000 People. This week also saw the final ofRush and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.

Ten News at Five won thedaytime segment for Total People.

The week of November 23 was the last week of the official survey periodfor 2008, with TVW-7 winning the year for Total People with an overall(0600-2400) commercial share of 42.2% (40.9% excluding Olympics),followed by NEW-10 with 29.8% (30.4% excluding Olympics) and STW-9 with28.0% (28.7% excluding Olympics). TVW-7 won every week of the 40 weekofficial ratings period (excluding Easter). Once again it was Seven’sstrong entertainment line up and continued leadership in News and TodayTonight that contributed to the convincing win.

• 94.5FM once again is the number one station for People 10+ retainingthe top overall position for the past nine years. They had an increasein all our demos from last survey, however, lost 2.7% against People10-17.

• 92.9FM had increases across all our demos with a 5% lift for People25-39 and 3.1% for 18-39 year olds. They regained their number oneposition with People 25-39 and are the number one station for People10-17.

• 96FM’s commercial share decreased with all our demos and theysuffered a loss of 4.1% against People18-39 and 5.2% against 10 – 17year olds.

• Nova 93.7 enjoyed an increase of 4.7% for People18-24 to take the number one position.

• 6PR gained audience share with People 10-17, 55+ and Grocery Buyers. The ABC still holds the top spot with People 55+.

• 6JJJ increased share with People 35-54, 40-54 and 55+.

DELOITTE ARA CHRISTMAS RETAIL SURVEY

This survey was based on 1000 Australians. Results showed the following:

• Almost 68% of consumers are planning to spend the same or more during the Christmas season compared to last year.

• Retailers are optimistic about sales during the holiday season based on lower interest rates and petrol prices on the decline

• 11% of respondents were spending up most on food and wine

NEWS LTD ONLINE DEAL

As a result of a joint venture between News Limited and MonsterWorldwide, the latter’s parent company will own 50% of News Limited’semployment website. CareerOne will definitely be Australia’s secondlargest digital employment brand as a result.

ROY MORGAN DATA

Interesting results from the Roy Morgan Single Source show that mobilephone service providers –an industry experiencing the highest growthover the last few years – had the lowest level of customersatisfaction. Only 65.2% of customers were satisfied with their serviceprovider which was down from 68.2% two years ago. The larger theprovider the less happy with the services which include   internet,mobile phone, pay TV and fixed line.

ICONIC OUTDOOR SITE

The biggest outdoor site in New York’s Times Square – if not in America– has just been instigated by Walgreens (a drugstore). The sign matrixhas 12 million LEDs (so they say). Content can jump from one screen toanother and in fact can also jump a few blocks to another Walgreenssite on 44th Street which is visible from Times Square. Each hour ofprogramming includes up to 30 minutes of paid advertising plusWalgreens branding and animated filler. An amazing 1.6 million peoplepass the building each day and the TV audience on New Year’s Eve isestimated at 1 billion.

AUSTRALIA SEARCH ADVERTISING MARKET 2008-2012 REPORT

Search advertising reached $869.7 million during the 2008 calendar yearwhich, according to CEASA figures, put it ahead of magazines and justshort of radio. The overall search advertising sector grew 36.5%year-on-year for 2008, according to this report; however, they predictsearch growth slowing over the next five years.  The study found 75% ofadvertisers are now spending more than 10% of their total media budgeton search with the leading sectors travel, accommodation, media and theentertainment, and banking, finance and insurance industries. Together,these segments contributed 56% of search revenues throughout the year.Keyword sponsorship followed by online directories make up the majorareas of investment. The study also confirmed that Google, who have 62%of the revenue share, are the leaders. Interestingly, the studycautions that some industries are experiencing weaker levels of successwith search advertising and there are signs that return on investmentlevels are beginning to decrease.
