TVW-7 won the week overall (0600-2400) for Total People with acommercial share of 43.6%, followed by STW-9 with 28.8% and NEW-10 with27.6%.

TVW-7 took out  eleven of the top fifteen programmes for TotalPeople with Wednesday News, Find My Family, The Zoo, Thursday’s TodayTonite, Packed to The Rafters, the Melbourne Cup Race Telecast,Saturday News, Tuesday’s Home & Away, Criminal Minds, Dancing Withthe Stars and the Sunday News. Despite being telecast during the day,the Melbourne Cup Race ranked number 6 and delivered 214,000 People inPerth. It captured the number one spot nationally, reaching an amazing2.272 million people across the five cap cities.

NCIS continues toperform well for NEW-10, appearing in the Top Fifteen.

STW-9’s toprating programme was CSI:Crime Scene Investigation delivering anaudience of 194,000 for Total People. Tuesday and Wednesday’s 1930-2030telecast of Two And A Half Men continued to do well with an averageaudience of 180,000 and 178,000 respectively. Unfortunately for bothNine and fans of The Mentalist it was preempted this week by a Moviedespite rallying the previous week in its new position on Wednesdaynight.

TEN NETWORK’S SNEAK PEAK AT 2009

A function for Media Buyers gave them a preview of what the network hasin store for 2009.  They reiterated that the 18-49 demographic remainstheir focus. There are seven new Australian programmes which  includereality shows Bondi Vet, Guerilla Gardeners and Master Chef Australia.Also tabled were seven new international shows including detectiveseries Lie to Me, mystical drama Merlin, and comedy Little BritainUSA.  So You Think You Can Dance, Australian Idol and The Biggest Loserwill return.

FOXTEL

Foxtel’s summer and new year programming will include 15 localproductions. The most exciting being the ad agency comedy 30 Seconds,the reality show called The Phone and Crime Investigation Australia andThe Stamp of Australia. Returning programmes in 2009 include Entourage,Gossip Girl, American idol, Project Runway and Australia’s Next TopModel.

SBS

SBS will broadcast the men’s final live and highlights from the women’sfinal of the Homeless World Cup from Melbourne in The World Game onSunday December 7. The Homeless World Cup is the annual international(representatives from 58 countries) street football tournament, unitingteams of people who are currently or have previously been homeless andexcluded from society to take a once in a lifetime opportunity torepresent their country in sport and educate the public on theuniversal issue of homelessness.

PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPER ONLINE REPORT

This quarterly report has been released with the July – September 2008figures and findings which show that there has been a 29.8% increaseyear-on-year. Top line breakdown of results is as follows:

• Search and Directories was the fastest growing sector, up 32.9% YOY

• General Display Advertising was up 29.4%

• Online classifieds increased 24.7%

• Finance, computers & communications and motor vehicle advertisersdominated online spend – accounting for just over half (52.2%) of allonline display advertising.

• Credit cards, home loans and personal banking, are the most heavily advertised finance products online

• Manufacturers dominate the motor vehicle sector.

• Computer hardware and telecommunications were the most heavily advertised products in the computers and communication sector.

NEW MOBILE PHONE TECHNOLOGY

The Digital Edge, which is an online market research company, haslaunched new technology which will allow them to conduct some surveysvia mobile. (I can hear gasps of horror) From their perspective, theysay this will benefit when wanting quick turnaround of information forshort surveys, for researching awareness of sponsorships at sportsevents and it will enable them to reach people who ignore onlinesurveys perhaps while travelling on the train or bus or while waitingat the airport.

ROY MORGAN CONSUMER CONFIDENCE RATING

According to this rating, consumer confidence has grown by 3 points inthe poll conducted on November 1 and 2. The RBA’s interest rate cut wasseen to be the driver of the result. Main results were:

• Overall there was a 2% lift of Australians who felt more positive about the economy

• 26% felt their financial situation was better off now than 12 months ago (up1%)

• 40% felt their family was worse off (down 2%)

COUNTRY BRAND INDEX

This is the fourth year that this study has taken place. FutureBrandinterview 2700 international business and leisure travelers from ninedifferent countries.  They examine how countries are branded and rankedaccording to a number of criteria and identify emerging global trendsin travel and tourism. For the third consecutive year, Australia camein first place followed by Canada and the USA. China, the United ArabEmirates and Croatia were named as the top three rising stars, meaningthey’re likely to become major tourist destinations in the next fiveyears.
