TVW-7 won the week overall (0600-2400) for Total People with acommercial share of 36.8%, followed closely by NEW-10 with 35.7% andSTW-9 with 27.4%.

This week TVW-7 took out only seven of the topfifteen programmes with News, Today Tonight, Better Homes And Gardens,Find My Family and Criminal Minds. With normal programming suspendedfor a couple of weeks due to the Easter break and school holidays, many programmes were replaced with repeat episodes which resulted insignificant reductions in audience numbers. One programme that wentagainst the trend was Better Homes And Gardens which saw an averageaudience increase of 32,000 viewers and made it into the top fifteenfor Total People.

STW-9 had three programmes in the top fifteen withNews, What’s Good For You (series return) and 60 Minutes. Underbelly: ATale Of Two Cities showed a repeat of the first episode and saw amassive decrease in audience of 103,000 viewers or 41.7%.

NEW-10 hadthe remaining five programmes in the top fifteen, with the top beingNCIS Ep1 averaging 200,000. NEW-10 also featured The Biggest Loser -The Weigh-In, NCIS Ep2, Bondi Rescue and The Biggest Loser on Tuesdaynight which all placed in the Top Fifteen. The highest rating sportsprogramme for the week was the Round 2 AFL match between West Coast andPort Adelaide on TVW-7, which had an average audience of 140,000.

Watch out for the launch of Nine’s Millionaire Hot Seat which commencesMonday April 20 and is scheduled Monday- Friday from 5:30pm-6pm, hostedby Eddie McGuire. The following week – on Wednesday April 29 – Sevenpremieres Thank God You’re Here at 7:30pm. There’s been an 18 monthhiatus since it last was on air on the Ten Network so it will beinetersting to see how it fares on Seven.

Nationally, Seven also won the week overall (0600-2400) with a 35.4%commercial share followed by Nine and Ten with 32.3% each. The topprogramme was Seven News on Monday with an average audience of1,735,326 viewers, followed by Seven News Sunday, Seven News Tuesdayand NCIS Ep1.

CONSUMER CONFIDENCE UP

The latest Roy Morgan Consumer Confidence Rating shows that consumerconfidence is up 5.4 points to 102.6, the highest rating since January2009. The rating is 2.5 points higher than in April 2008, even with thelatest ABS unemployment rate being set at 5.7%. this is the highestunemployment rate since August 2004 and 1.475 million Australians areeither unemployed or under-employed. Some other figures from the reportare:

• Only 16% (down 5%) of Australians expect their family to be ‘worse off financially’ this time next year.

• 39% of Australians are more confident about the future than this time last year, when it was just 32%.

OZTAM ONE DATA

TV measurement body OzTAM has released the first audience data forNetwork Ten’s new sports channel “One”. One, the first commercialfree-to-air SD digital channel to launch, drew its highest ratingaudience on April 14th for the show One Week at a Time, delivering anaudience of 59,000. On Easter Sunday, the first day of releasedinformation, the top rating shows were Tread BMX, which had an audienceof 53,000 and Sports Tonight – The Weekend Wrap which had 50,000.

PACIFIC MAGAZINES CONFIRMS NEW MAGAZINE TITLE

Pacific Magazines has announced the title of their new monthly healthmagazine – Prevention. The launch date has been kept under wraps, butthe publisher has confirmed it will hit the stands in the Spring.Prevention will be targeted at women aged 40-plus who are passionateabout caring for their mind and body and leading a healthy lifestyle.The launch of Prevention will be backed by a multi-platform marketingcampaign. The launch issue is expected to have 70,000 copies at aretail price of $7.

COMMERCIAL RADIO AUSTRALIA REPORT

Radio revenue has fallen by 2.8% nationally in the first quarter of2009 compared to the same time last year. The Sydney market was theworst hit – down 8.7% – followed by Perth – 3.9% down – and Brisbane -down 1%. Melbourne enjoyed a 2.3% increase and Adelaide gained 0.1%.

DMG LAUNCHES DIGITAL STATIONS

DMG radio has announced it will launch two digital radio stations inthe coming weeks when digital radio is switched on. The two stationswill be named Novanation, a commercial dance station, and Koffee, achill-out station. Along with the digital telecast, the new stationswill stream on dedicated websites. DMG radio will also simulcast theirexisting analogue stations Nova, Vega and FIVEaa on the nationaldigital radio network.

Austereo Network has already launched Radar online, a digital channelfor undiscovered music. The Australian Radio Network has not revealedplans to launch any digital stations.

NEW SHOW ON CHANNEL TEN 

Channel Ten has announced a new show titled ‘MyGen’ to be launched at19:30pm on Tuesday May 5. The show is an intergenerational comedyshowdown that pits gens X, Y and Baby-Boomers against each other todetermine who knows more and who knows best. The host for the show willbe Shaun Micallef, with regular team captains Amanda Keller(Baby-Boomers), Charlie Pickering (Gen X) and Josh Thomas (Gen Y). Theteam captains will be joined each week with sensational celebrityguests from across the generations.

FACEBOOK

Facebook has reached the 200 million user mark. To celebrate, theycreated a space on the site, “Facebook for Good,” where people canshare their stories about how Facebook helped them give back to theircommunties, effect change or connect with distant relatives and friends.
