BUSH WAXED
This is something that The West Australian has been trying to inspire for ages, but Perth agencies have been slow on the uptake. Tactical ads. Maybe, it’s too hard to sell quickly through the account service and client teams. Most of the time they are simple headline ads that appear the day after an event of a scandal. When done well the ads get noticed and increasingly become viral and draw lots of comments from around the world.
The Glue Society did it for IKEA when John Howard spent $3000 on a chair. TCM also created on when the Hollywood screenwriter’s strike was announced.
And Euro RSCG Sydney has created a banner ad for Reckitt Benckiser’s Veet Hair Removal cream. The ad simply says “Goodbye Bush” and appeared in the Daily Telegraph and Herald Sun during the coverage of President Obama’s inauguration. It’s not the greatest tactical ad ever but it has already being circulated virally and on blogs.
Campaign Brief can’t recall a good/bad or average Perth example of a tactical ad. Can you?

That is as predictable as one of the mans speeches.
Ooh a rude pun on Bush … hehehe
Another high point for the industry – what is more pathetic is that it will pick up awards.
Predictable, yes. But good on them for having a go.
One day you’re going to get caught. I can remember the Holeproof underpants ad that hit the paper the day after Malcolm Fraser was caught in his underpants outside his hotel room.
6.33, 7.41. Great advertising doesn’t always have to be about a poetic piece of wanky copy. In this case, the genius is in the placement. Your ability to string two words together is not the be all and end all of advertising.
Never get sick of Bush digs.
Predictable maybe – but I’ve heard a couple of regular punters already tell me about it in last few days.
Remember the Panadol ‘ one is enough’ piece that had the photo of Bush and Bush snr looking simple in a gold caddy, that was gold.
Clean shaven fun.

There was a great opportunity recently for the Real Estate Industry in WA to make something of the bloke who tried to sell his house on ebay by failed. The opportunity went begging….
Agreed 9.55. The genius is in the placement.
Why no tactical ads in Perth?
Because not many of you creatives can start thinking until you get a brief!!!!!!!!!
11.41 – There’s no tactical ads in Perth because you suits couldn’t get it sold quick enough. You need at least 3 meetings and 35 emails to get sign off on a logo size. ,
I agree with 9.55AM, its a giggle and it’s getting noticed. Good on them.
11:33 There was an ad. It wasn’t run.
I can remember two. 303’s adultshop ad in response to the news that research shows masturbation is a good way to avoid prostate cancer (actually…did that go ahead?) and block’s election menu stuff for some lunch bar or other.
Actually 11.41, I think you’ll find that plenty of lovely topical ideas are presented by passionate proactive yet- to- be briefed creatives, it’s getting them run that is the problem.
Gidday Perth. There’s quite a good tactical ad for Obama and the White House on the CB NZ blog.

Oh who bloody cares if it’s predictable. It’s simple and it’s funny.
