Perth_Survey4_2017_SHARE.jpgThe fourth GfK Metro Radio Survey for 2017 has been released, with a major change to the Perth radio landscape.

For the first time ever, Nova 93.7 is #1 People 10+, knocking off the perennial mix 94.5 from top spot.

Nova had a rise of 0.4% to a P10+ share of 14.1%, while Mix 94.5 dropped -1.0% to 13.7%.

Nova is in its fifteenth year, having commenced broadcasting in December 2002, and it is the third station Gary Roberts helmed to the #1 position, having done it previously with 96FM and Mix 94.5.

hit92.9 was flat to remain #3 on an 11.0% share. Nova, mix94.5 and hit92.9 were the only stations to record double-figure shares P10+.

Nova 93.7’s result was underpinned by a monster 36.0% share of P10-17; a 24.0% share of P18-24; and a 21.7% share of P25-39. It was the only station to record shares above 20% across all the under-40 demos. It was a comprehensive result for Nova, which also recorded the biggest Cumulative Audience of 577,000 (P10+), and the biggest Average Audience of 32,000 (P10+).

mix94.5 made gains in P18-24 ( +2.9% to 18.7%) and P25-39 (+2.4% to 14.0%) but worryingly continued to lose ground in its key 40-54 demo (-1.7% to 17.2%). Overall, its Cume was up 22,000 to 542,000 but its Average Audience slipped 3,000 to 31,000.

hit92.9 gained 8% in P10-17 but lost share in P18-24 (-3.2% to 25.0%) and P25-39 (-2.5% to 16.0%). The station also recorded a Cume Audience above half-a-million with 512,000.

A day after the station parted company with Commercial Director Rick Dalton, 96FM retains its #4 position P10+ with a gain of 0.5% to 9.4%. Despite a slight slip of -0.1% to 16.5%, it also retains its #2 position for P40-54 and is now just 0.7% behind mix94.5 for that demo.

6PR was up +0.2% to 6.8% P10+ and seems to be skewing younger than has traditionally been the case. It recorded rises in P18-24, 25-39 and 40-54 but fell in P55-64 and P65+ .

6IX slipped -2.2% to 13.9% in its key P55-64 demo but is still a clear #2 for that demo behind mix94.5’s 15.5% share.

In Breakfast, it was another clear win for Nova 93.7, with Nathan, Nat & Shaun up 0.8% to 14.8% opening up a gap on mix94.5’s Clairsy, Matt & Kymba, who fell -2.2% to 11.7%. hit92.9’s Heidi, Will & Woody were #3 on 10.9%, a fall of -0.5%.

Nathan, Nat & Shaun also recorded the biggest Cume (370,000) followed by Heidi, Will & Woody (293,000) and Clairsy, Matt & Kymba (282,000).

WHAT THE STATIONS SAID

Erica McGee, mix94.5 Content Director

“Today’s Survey 4 result proves the Perth radio market is in great shape. We’re celebrating plenty of wins for mix94.5, particularly with Tim Lordan and Ross Edwards across our No Repeat Workday, which comes with a $20,000 guarantee! We’re looking forward to Clairsy, Matt & Kymba returning to breakfast after a break for the start of Survey 5 on July 17 so we can hit the ground running ahead of an extremely strong second half of the year planned for our listeners and clients. I couldn’t be more proud of the mix94.5 team whose passion ensures we keep delivering the content and music Perth loves us for.”

Amanda Lee, hit92.9 Content Director

“To hold ground in a really competitive radio Perth landscape is a win for us today! We continue to connect and grow our audience, especially when it comes to women, through our money can’t buy experiences like Katy Perry on the World Famous Rooftop and World Famous & Live with Hanson, through Perth’s Funniest Shows with Heidi, Will and Woody plus Hamish and Andy, and with our music format of Hits and Old School. The first six months has been HUGE for hit92.9, but the rest of 2017 is about to get even bigger!”

Duncan Campbell, ARN National Content Director

“We’re very happy to see 96FM continue its trend of delivering growth each survey this year, rising in share across both Station and Breakfast. This positive momentum is the result of our strategy across content and marketing and we will continue to make more changes and improvements throughout the remainder of the year in order to deliver further growth.”
